so i have a 1969 351w bored .40 over that came out of a fairlane from the casting numbers and im going to be putting this into my 92 gt, me and my dad want to go carb and my dad is a HUGE pontiac guy and isnt into fords all that much so he wants some input on some build ups of this engine, he was thinking of making it a 427, but he wants 550-600 to the wheels and he would like N/A,is that still safe on the block because i heard it can only handle 700hp? anyways i would just like to see your suggestions on how to build this engine and ill keep doing research thanks guys

550 to 600 to the wheels is going to take some good parts to get. I think a 4.125 stroke with the .040 pistons would get you about a 424 CID. The 69 block are suposed to be the strongest windsor blocks there are. If it is N/A I would go for it. I think the only thing that might be a problem with the stock block is the 3" mains that dont care for a lot of RPM. If you can keep the rpm reasonable and the timing reasonable the engine should last a long time.

It should hold that power safely, you could also do a 1/2 fill, and screw in freeze plugs, and debur the block for added strength.

You have to realize that that power level is almost 2hp per CID that is NMRA Hot street kinda engines. 600 to the wheels is almost 800 to the flywheel. It can be done with that block but you are pushing it. Lots of RPM killer heads monster cam big exhaust to get that kinda power..

I have a 69 block in my car.

It makes a little over 500 to the wheels N/A. I have run as much as 300 hp of NOS on it whithout any issues with the block. By the way my combo is a 421 CI with 4.100 crank 6.200 rod and flat top .040 over pistons.

I shift between 7000 and 7200 depending on my reflexes. The shift light comes on at 7000 but I'm getting older and the reflexes aint what they used to be.

Just checking. On a side not I nuked the Glide planatarys last year. With a new 1.8 straight cut planatary and your old nitrous converter in killer air the car went 10.15 N/a and 9.40s with a 100 shot 1.33 60ft.

My 69 block is still holding up!

That is flyin Tim. Picked up quite a bit for a 100 shot.

My car went 6.35 in the 1/8th NA with the tight nitrous converter. Have no idea what that would be in the 1/4 but am assuming that it would be close to low 10's.

I have not run the juice for over a year but the car went 5.70s at over 120 in he 1/8th on the 8.5 slicks. I got tired of thrashing all the time so I quite the Outlaw 8.5 stuff. I am going to run the 6.50 index class this year.

Hate to hear that about the tranny. How many passes were on it before it let go? I am running basically the same thing in my tranny now.

There were a lot of passes on it 2 years worth. I cant complain. Where are you running the 6.50 indexed stuff? .400 tree? I ran 1/4 indexed stuff last year NSCA Street Machine.

OVOS at Ohio Valley is running 6.50 and 7.50 index along with the heads up stuff.
