I've been looking at a 96 gt and a 98 gt for a DD. I don't know much about the Mod years so is there any big changes that make one better? Also what kind of mpg do they get?

We had a '98. It wasn't too bad on mileage, but I can't quote you what it was. They are pigs, when it comes to performance. The later ones, with the PI improvement, are much better. Also, check the intake, to make sure it has the aluminum cross-over. If it doesn't, you WILL be replacing it.

Good Luck! :bigthumb

If you are going to get one I would say get the 96. There are far less quirks when it comes to parts. One good example is the basket in the fuel tank for the pump. 96-97 cars use a standard drop in put, in 98 they had a returnless style basket and as far as I know only Vortech has a drop in pump and its a lot more expensive.

my 96 has given me no problems. plus the 98 has different things hear and there. Actually a 97 would be your best bet. Its the same as the 96 except it has a radiator upgrade and is easier to replace. But whatever you get should be fine.

^^ What they all said. Not too much differ from the 3 yrs. As far as gas milage at one time.....before the 4.30's on the hwy I could right around 25 mpg in my 98. I belive it has a 3.27 stock gear in it. Plus in my opinion they are the best looking years...when slightly modded.
