I was goin to swap out my control arms on my 86 and the damn bushings are so rotted that the sleeves are frozen to the bolts. Do you guys have any ideas how to get these fuggers out? I tryed to cut them, heat them up and nothing has worked.

i had to use a large rod and hammer to pund them out....then went and got new bushings and bolts from local store. it can be a PIA but keep trying....also try to raise the rear some more and try again....you got to play with your rear to get it to come out.

damn heating should have worked. did you use a small propane torch or a big boy torch? you may not have gotten the outside hot enough to expand. could try taking a air chisle to it and use a lot a PB blast. Or put a large impact on it and mabey brake the sleeve from the rubber. then cut the head off the bolt and punch it though the other side, cut an inch off that and punch it the other way and it should drop out.

Someone in the past has put hardend bolt in it. They just knock the teeth off the blades.

I have used a prybar and knock it under the head of the bolt, then pry on it while having someone tap on the other side with a brass punch. Use a brass hammer or punch when beating on the bolt or you will flare it out and cause more of a hassle when it finally breaks free. What kind of control arms, stock? Why would someone put a hardened bolt in? You would think you could get a higher end blade that would cut through it.

The factory bolts are hardened. I had the same problem with mine when I changed them. Try using an air hammer and drive them out. That is about the only way if they are real bad. Heat wont work because you cant get enough to the sleeve without melting the bushing and they STINK. Hope ya get it.

Try using a cutoff wheel it should cut through the bolt.

Probably a dumb question, but did you already soak it with PB blaster and let that sit for a day?

I bought a harbor freight breaker bar rod that could slide down the other hole to keep it inline with the bolt and hit mine about 400 times with a 5lb hammer and they finally gave. I actually rounded off the breaker bar a bit beating them out. Really sucked. kevin
