cam question

i installed my new cam today and noticed a little bit of play with the retainer on. i havent bolted anything else on it till i found out if thats normal. i ve installed cams in my last 3 cars but never noticed if there was any play. is this normal i was thinking with everything bolted up it will take up that slack,its barely an 8th of an inch if that.

Are you saying that theres front to back play without the caam sproket? That is normal. If theres excessive play with the sprocket on, then you may have a problem.

Mines got a lot of play in it too,, then again, I haven't installed the cam plug in the back of the block. =)

yeah that what i meant,thanks guys. for some reason that stuck out to me this time. just wanted to make sure.
