I bought a riding mower last year, and its probably about time for some servicing. I want to sharpen the blades, check the belts, change oil and filter, etc.

I thought about flipping it over, but figured all the oil would run out, and that would be bad. How are you supposed to service the underside of a riding mower?

I put mine on jack stands so its easier to get to the blades and belts. as for the oil it depends on the motor. some say to lean the mower with the plug out to drain while others siphon it out as much as they can. do you still have the manual to the mower?

Why dont you drain the oil first...then tip it over to take the blades off...after your done with the blades...fill it back up with oil..and your done!!

Here's what I do to drop the deck on my John Deere. There's a front support rod, loosen it up and remove it. There are two arms to support it in back, they are tied into the rasing/lowering part of the deck. You pull the pins back and it unhooks. Ther's one spring to pull and then you slide the belt off the engine sheeve and pull the deck out. I can do it in about 10 minutes. You can't change the belt w/o taking off the deck.
