After Fox bodies, that may very well be my favorite car. Especially in GNX form.

they weren't, they were 45-50k after dealer markup, quite a few sold for that price.

I vividly remember a couple days back in 1987 when I was working at WPAFB. Right next to the base in Fairborn was a Tatone Buick dealer.

For a very short while, Tatone has (2) FULL ROWS of (17 Total) Buick Grand Nationals sitting there!! :eek:

I stopped by everyday on my way home to look and drool over them! I remember thinking to myself....Man, I wonder what it would be like seeing (17) 69 Mach I's back in the day.... :rolleyes:

Still kicking myself in the azz for NOT getting pictures. :mad:

The GNX's were $30K+. Regular GN's and T's were around $15K.

A couple of low mileage GNX's have gone for around $100K recently. That one has been on Ebay for awhile now. Nice looking car:bigthumb

A few years ago there were 2 guys at Edgewater in GNX's. I talked to them for a good half hour about them. They were both mostly bone stock but were running in the low 12s with total ease, on street tires.


I read somewhere that those cars were capable of 200mph on salt flats...but i've never seen any proof of that.

I highly doubt 200 mph. The GNX's ran low 13's off the show room floor. GN's and TTypes ran high 13's /low 14's.

There is alot of myths about the GNX's. Biggest one is that they were twin turbo'd. They never were twin turbo'd.

If you saw how they were put together new, youd freak at the crappy looking work. They still kicked ass tho.

It amazes how ungodly fast the t-type/gn was for what it was. I have a few good friends that own some and the powere that v6 puts out is crazy. Back in the early 90's, I rode down to Buick nationals with a friend. His car ran low 12's at the time...which was extremely fast back then. On the way down there, on 93 octane, it got 29mpg running about 75mph on the highway. We got there, changed the chip and bolted on the slicks and he ran some low 12s.

One of my top 3 favorite muscle cars of all time!

It's too bad the SVO Mustangs weren't as potent. In a lighter car the GNX engine would be nasty.


There was actually a Fox body/GN engine swap car on eBay a long time ago. It was a hack job but probably pretty fast.

BuickNats when held at National Trails in Cbus, there was a Fox body with a 3.8L Buick swap in it. It went nines........wow :(

Yes, I prefer Buicks, no need to mix in FORDS.

FoMoCo into a GM chassis, just kill yourself. 5.0 not having issues in their own chassis.

Guess I'm a pureist.
