Trucks in Michigan

I just got back from a few days in Michigan with my daughter and noticed one thing. The trucks up there are not 18 wheelers, they are 42 wheelers. I mean all tires from tractor to end of trailer. All the turns from main roads are coated with rubber from these things. I spoke with a senator who was staying at my hotel and he said that it had to do with weight per axle. Michigan I guess allows less per so the trucks just add more than a few.
Just kind of looked weird.

Less weight per axle, but the MI roads still suck big time! Maybe the law was passed by the tire companies.

Yes the roads suck and the speed limit is 70!! Felt like a road course.

yea i noticed the truck thing when we were up there. the whole time we were in Michigan, which was almost a week, i think we saw one cop on the road. and most of the back roads we were on didn't have speed limit signs.

Yes...in MI the trucks can carry as much weight as they can fit axles under the trailers. The rest of the US has 80K# limits on semis.

Actually, MI allows trucks to carry a max of 160k#. Most of those trucks are carrying coiled steel to the stamping plants. The additional axles reduce the potential tire hazards, IE- explosion from overloading, but then you get the retreads buying POS retreads. :mad:
