I am upgrading my front brakes from gt to cobra's. I was wondering if everything will bolt right up? I have bought a used set of 98 cobra front calipers, new rotors, pads, bleeders. I think that is all i need, but is there anything else i would need for the conversion??? Let me know thanks Mike

Everything will bolt right to the spindles. Only things I'm not sure of are:

1: If the brake lines are the same.
2: If the Master Cylinder is the same.

And obviously you have to run 17" wheels.

It's a direct bolt-on. You can use your existing brake lines and master cylinder.

Do you have the Cobra mounting brackets for the calipers?

Do you have the Cobra mounting brackets for the calipers?

The mounting brackets are part of the calipers themselves.

Everything will bolt up fine, I'm also wondering about the brake lines though.

Master cylinder and booster are fine.

I have never seen a set of calipers bolt directly to the spindle on a Newer stang..

I see what you're saying, but don't think I've ever seen a set of cobra calipers without their brackets, so he should be ok

If they look like this, you're good: http://www.buyfordracing.com/shop/product_info.php?products_id=480

The brackets to bolt them up are a part of the actual caliper. The pads hold the assembly together...its kinda weird... the brake line should be the same length...the banjo bolt for the brake line should also be the same, but if it isnt the same...its like a 2.00 part from autozone.

good luck man it was nice to meet you.

I've done a couple of GT to Cobra upgrades, and I'm 99% sure that I used the stock brake lines.

I'm just worried about the fitting that bolts the brake hose to the caliper. I think it'll be fine though, since they are off close to the same year car, 96-98. I think it was mid 01 where they changed them.

Edit: here ya go:

MMBK2F : Front Brake Hose Kit, 1994-04 with coarse thread fluid bolts (M10 x 1.5)

If you have 1994-98 GT or 2003-2004 GT & Cobra front brakes (starting with August 2002 production date of 2003 model year cars), you will need this line kit. If you are unsure, you will need to confirm that you have coarse thread (M10 x 1.5) fluid bolts. If you need fine thread (M10 x 1.0) bolts, purchase the MMBK3F kit instead.

MMBK3F : Front Brake Hose Kit, 1994-04 with fine thread fluid bolts (M10 x 1.0)

If you have 1994-2003 Cobra or 1999-2003 GT front brakes (through July 2002 production date of 2003 model year cars), you will need this line kit. If you are unsure, you will need to confirm that you have fine thread (M10 x 1.0) fluid bolts. If you need coarse thread (M10 x 1.5) bolts, purchase the MMBK2F kit instead.

Actually sounds to me like it won't work??? He has a 96 gt, so he has the course threads, and a set of calipers with fine threads???

These are the two different brake lines offered by MM btw.

I wonder if you used 99+ cobra calipers? I know that the pistons in the 99+ calipers are 2mm bigger than the 94-98's, 38mm compared to 40mm. In that case, it would have worked for you.

everything bolts right up.

even the lines, though most people switch them out for SS lines while they are in there.

They were on customer cars, not mine, so I'm not sure. I just installed them.

"The lines dont match up!" I found out tonight the hard way! I took my car to my uncles shop tonight to switch everything, I came with new rotors, pads and calipers. I took everything apart and started to put the new stuff on and the last thing was to put the line on, and the thread was different and the line would not fit in the groove. So what line kit do i need lol. Mike

Returned your PM.

What year are your cobra calipers off of?
