Wow I had a good time yesterday. The wife and I took the SRT4 out to an autocross. We had taken my 95 Neon once before, but I don't remember it being that much fun. I have come to the conclusion that I am a better driver in autocross than I am at the drag strip. I managed to cut 9.5 seconds off my times through out the day and finished 2nd in D stock. The wife won D stock ladies. Then we got to go for a ride with Crissy Weaver (I think she post on here once in a while) in her 03 Mach 1. She has been the F stock ladies natonal champ for the last 3 years. Now I have been in fast street cars, but WOW what a ride. I never knew a stock Mustang could be so damn fun.

Mrs Weaver is quite fast isn't she?

Yes she is. Her car should have an oh shit handle for the passenger. :D

Yeah, I've held on for dear life in that car. (but kent was driving)

It's weird how smooth is fast in roadracing but in autocross you have to get a little violent!

That's because conedodging is a very different discipline than roadracing. ;)

There's a reason that a good autocrosser doesn't necessarily make a good roadracer and vice versa.

I think I'm better at roadracing than autocross. I'm all about feeeeeling the balance of the car. At autocross, I'm smooth and I've NEVER taken out a cone... but I'm NO WHERE NEAR as fast as Kent Weaver!!! He manhandles that car! :eek2:

Same here. I downright suck at autocross. I don't abuse the machinery enough, I think. :D

And another one is hooked--it's like a big ole crack pipe. I don't know why I waited so long to get hooked on autocross. It's perfect for my ADD mind. BTW, how many drivers in your class? What was the FTD?

cstreu1026

There were 3 drivers in my class. There were a ton of classes since they ran both SCCA and NASA classes. The guy that won killed me by about 4 seconds, but I did beat the guy in the WRX which made me feel good. My wife finished 4 out of 9 women total for the day and about 2 -3 tenths ahead of me....she really knows how to abuse the car. I found a good deal on some race rubber so if I can come by some new wheels. ;)

Yeah, but real drivers turn, too.

And I got 6 runs (could have had more) or about a minute a piece vs. 2 runs (if you are lucky) at kilkare on a Thursday night that last a quarter of the time. I guess the natural progression will be a HPDE or open track event...but thats way down the road.

I turn, at the end of the 1/4 mile to avoid the sand :cool1:

Do a HPDE, I guarantee you'll never go stand in a parking lot all day for 5 minutes of slow driving again. :D

I plan on trying an HPDE (next year), but I don't know if I'll get bored with all of the "down time" between turns.

I can't take credit for being the driver in all those pictures. My wife was driving in about half of them.

Tomorrow and Sunday. 2 Day event at Wright State...its suppose to be a big thing with people coming from 7 different states.

Miami Valley Sports Club has events om 8/19, 8/26, 9/8, 9/16, 10/7, 10/20, and 10/28. They have big, fast courses because of the parking lots they use.

I know the Western Ohio SCCCA has 4 or 5 more events and I am am not sure about the Cincinnati regions schedule.

The next questions is can you get race tires....Kuhmo, Hoosier, etc? :D

Thanks Matt.

One arguement for coming up north to give it a try is that QSL is right across the street. :D
