The boards have been acting a little patchy tonight so to save time I thought I would make a new thread.

It's official, I heard from Kelly S. that we infact won!

Awesome job guys.

That's just too awesome guys...i'm really proud of everyone who made this happen. I had that worry in the back of my head but to be absolutely honest, i KNEW this would be a win from the first time the race was spoke of. There's just too many talented gear heads around here not to!

So I hear the brakes left a bit to be desired. Good job on the driving The Johnson.

And I can't say how happy I am for all involved, especially those that were there ALL the time, even when things were extremely strained. You guys have had my sympathies from day 1, because I kind of figured it wasn't going to be an easy task. I wish I could have helped, but you guys still came through with flying colors.

Congrats everyone!!

They also said its the best episode the have ever had and we might get invited back to build another car.

How was the negotiating part of it?

Did they see the turbo and ask for 15 cars haha?

Yeah how much smack talk was there?

ibstrokin
08-11-2007, 03:41 AM
Not too much smack talk, but they continued to lay down a little, then step up. But it helps to have 142 mph traps. We actually won 5 races, but they took one from us because we went faster than 10.50 without negotiating it.Honestly the guys we raced are prob a pretty good group of guys, they sandbagged a little, but who doesn't.

Stangbangerz was always a very proud group but should be even more so after last night. I have kept people I know abreast of all thats been going on since Vinny passed and it has a few looking to get back in the Mustang scene. Once again from up north a huge thanks to Mike Bell and the Stangbangerz and all those involved...you ROCK.

From the Kyle and Lisa Keezer palace... I am so friggin pumped this morning. What an exciting day, the most exciting day of my life next to my wedding day, that's for damn sure. Our pit crew did an excellent job, but Matt was the man, he kicked ass driving that car. I have never been so proud to be a part of SBZ in my whole life. I'll be the blubbering idiot on TV when it airs.

I still can't believe it! I woke up with a huge smile on my face. The electricity there after we won last night was the best feeling in the world. We are just PROUD, no other way to put it.

We ALL know it, we ALL felt it, Vinny was there with us, there is no doubt in anyone's mind about that. His name was all over that track, we kept asking for his help. You ask and you shall receive, it's always been that way with Vinny. ;)

Holly kept me posted about every half hour and I wish I could've gotten on the site to keep everyone else in the loop. I was so overjoyed and full of emotion knowing my dad and brother were watching over everyone in KC. When Holly called me at the end and I got off the phone with her, I took a moment to myself to just let some tears run. I know Vince was up there saying, "watch this dad" because he knew what a great job you all had done on the car. And as I said before, having the PINKS show done on my dad's birthday with my brother's passion was a double whammy for me, but also sweet justice in the end.

Well, we did it.

That Camaro is a monster and I have to admit I was nervous once seeing under the hood. Those guys brought a good program and a hell of a race team. They put up a damn good fight and I have nothing bad to say about them. Hats off to them!

I have to tell you that I drove the s*!t out of that car! After a few passes we lost the back brakes. Then the last two passes, the pass. side caliper stuck on. I had to steer against the brakes all the way down the track. Anyone ever stop a 2,900lb. 140mph turbo car with one brake?

Wow, what a ride. Vinny was deff. my gardian angel last night.

We got so much work done because of you and Craig. There were so many things we fixed/changed to make the car work the way it did in just three days. The group of us in that trailer sweatin our nads off working by a single droplight in the hotel parking lot on Thursday night. Then all of us pushing the car off the rack and onto the dyno with minutes to spare on Friday afternoon, it was a rush and the best feeling of teamwork and commitment I have experienced in a long time. This was an awesome experience and I thank you guys for letting us be a part of it. I was excited to haul the car out there... and even more excited to bring it back home! There were a number of things that needed addressed last minute. There is a pretty lengthy list somewhere... Kelly, Mike, Matt, Travis and myself were up late Thursday night to get started on it in the hotel parking lot. We were up early on Friday and Kyle hooked us up with his local shop so we could finish our list. HUGE THANKS TO SUPER TUNE PERFORMANCE!!!! They let us use the lift, tools, their expertise and get a few pulls on the dyno. After everyone else arrived in town all their hands were in on this too. Everyone was at Super Tune helping out. We had to be back at the track by 4pm... the car was on the dyno at 2:30!!! We made three pulls, loaded the car at 3:10 and pulled in the gate at 4:00.

This was by far the most incredible show of Team work that I have ever seen. Everyone pulled together under difficult circumstances and a crunching time deadline. Even the crew on the track was on their game as mentioned above!

Matt Johnson drove the fucking wheels off this car! He was under some pretty serious conditions and handled it like a professional! He negotiated and drove his races! He knew exactly what had to be done on each pass. He suffered through some grueling heat, in and out of the car, running to the "circle" to negotiate, back in the car and no brakes for seven passes!

My thoughts are all over the place right now as you can see, so I will try to collect them later. Now I'm going to see if Rachael got any pics I can post.

I know it's been said, but you wouldn't believe the teamwork. Everyone had very little sleep, extremely hot temps, and still worked their tails off. When we were in the dyno shop, my hand was waterlogged from wiping sweat. It was 99* and humid. It took about 2.5 hrs to tape the show, and it was balls to the wall, nonstop, no holds barred action.

I am very proud of this accomplishment, for Holly, Vinny, SBZ. I am also proud to be apart of a class act group of guys and gals. I have made alot of new freinds on this project, which was Vinny's goal, to bring people together, and he is still successful in that.

Same here. Congrats to all who gave and wrenched and just watched. We all were sitting on pins and needles waiting for the outcome of this. Thank Vinny above for our good fortune. I know he was watching and probably laughing his ass off.
I would love to see both cars together before they go up for sale on E-Bay. It looks to be a long summer so we should have tons of time to get it all together.

I just got home, got unpacked, and thought I'd jump on here before I take a nice LONG nap. I have had about 10 hours sleep since Wednesday night, but I'm not complaining! :D Skybus is awesome! The ride out to KC was a bit bumpy (turbulance) but our ride home this evening was the smoothest plane ride I have EVER had. We left KC at 10:15 (was scheduled to leave at 10:30) and arrived in Columbus around 12:45 (scheduled to arrive at 1:15). Jenn slept and I read, we stopped and fueled up with some vanilla cappaccinos and were on our way, made it home in about an hour and a half!

I'm still pumped, Jenn and I talked about it all the way home. We're just glad we were there and a part of the whole thing, and of course, she's (along with me) is SO proud of Matt!

I can't remember the last time I was up at this hour .

Me needs some night night now, phones are turned off, I'm getting some uninterrupted sleep peeps. Thanks AGAIN to the Pinks Crew (I was one of them but I wasn't much help). G'night all.

ps It feels good to be HAPPY again for a change. ;) I haven't felt this feeling in over six months now.

Holy S***! This was the most AMAZING weekend of my life!! I am so proud to be a Stangbanger. Everyone in the pit crew did an awesome job, and not to be biased but...MATT JOHNSON DROVE THE NUTS OFF THAT CAR! I haven't been able to quit smiling since they announced the winner.:D I'm not sure of how legal of a move it was, but as soon as they announced the winner, I jumped that fence and went screaming across the track LOL. Once again, great job everybody and remember :sbowns:

Keep in mind, this wasn't an easy race. The Camaro and crew gave you a tough race. This was won negotiating, not because of each of the driver and teams abilities. Had the Camaro team not agreed to "run what ya brung", you would be without a car today. I'm not a fan of that Pinks rule of running faster than 10.50, but it was what you both agreed to. Props to the mustang crew for busting your butts to fix the brake issue. Great job for the Camaro crew in tuning their car as they raced. No one on either team slacked off - you both worked hard. I'm not sure how much time you had to get this car ready, but the Camaro's first full pass was made at KCIR.

You both made history on Pinks. Congratulations to the winner!

Glad you guys found the place! You were a class act and your car went for a good cause. I have nothing but respect for you guys, you really brought a fast car, and you're right, it was close enough racing and your car had the potential for 8 second runs and it was a miracle we pulled this off. thanks for being such good sports! We would have been the same way had the roles been reversed. Please don't take our celebrating wrong, we were just overcome with emotion and were so happy seeing our goal accomplished. None of us got anything out of this besides a good time, except for Holly when these sell.

Hey guys, I totally misconstrued the message/tone in the Ibanged post. I never meant any disrespect by my response, seriously. I certainly do not want to do anything to dampen your victory or put the other guys down.

This is just to frig'n joyous occassion for any mixed messages! I cannot even fathom the emotions the camaro crew must be dealing with, as well as the SBz crew, and if I stepped on any toes, I'm really truly sorry! ;)

Yes the Camero guys had our repect before during and after the race. We got a chance to talk to some of them and they are a class act. It takes so much work and you risk so much just to bring a car to this race. Everyone that was there knows what went down. You will all see the show and understand that this was not a one sided race at all.

08-13-2007, 09:16 AM

I'm a little late posting on this thread as I haven't been able to access SBZ since Thursday the 9th because of a host problem that has since been resolved.

I just wanted to say what an awesome job that the people who had a hand in the buildup of the "Pinks Car" did, and that any amount of involvement that a person had in this project was needed and showed greatly on Saturday August 11, 2007 as the efforts of Stangbangerz came together and pulled through to the finish line and to victory.

I personally couldn't go due to unforseen family circumstances but just listening to all of the people who were there and looking at all of the pictures I have a small inkling of what it may of been like. It is truly an honor to be a member of this great group of Stangbangerz and to be able to say that I had a very small hand in this project and to realize that why this car was built, the meaning behind this car and what this car represents is awesome, as soon as I heard that we had won I said "Vinny would be proud".

Peace :cool2:

Thank You Bob, and some day your fine team will have to share what their first impression of the Mustang was. I know several of us were intimidated by your Big Block car, and especially the well worn Nomex suit you donned at the line in. It appeared that you had raced so much in the past and would definately be a handful to contend with. You and your team didn't let us down, and it still seems like a dream.
Stangbangerz couldn't have raced a finer driver and crew than your group produced.

Best Wishes!

I have had the show saved on my DVR for months now. It's fun just to turn it on, on a lazy Sunday. I know who wins but it always make me alittle nervous about half way through sometimes

All and all it has been a good year. Trials and tribulations aside, good friends and good times.

I still watch that episode every chance I get. I still get caught up in it like am still there, it's pretty cool. It took some good friends and team work to make it happen. Something that will last for a long time.

I've always complained about how much Speed repeats certain shows, this is one time I'm not complaining.
