View Full Version : My basement project...

It's been done for a couple of months now but I just finally got around to taking the finished pictures. I moved into the house a couple of years ago and not long after moving in discovered the basement had a nice leaking issue. I fixed the leaks and dried out the carpet but there were still some stains and honestly the carpet wasn't that great to begin with. There was also an old bookshelf that I wanted to replace with a decent built-in entertainment center, allowing me to clean up the cables and reclaim a little more space in the basement. This is the only picture we have of what we started with:

After we removed the old carpet:

We got the new carpet laid and picked up a new sectional, recliner, coffee table and end table. The furniture was a trade off with the wife for the entertainment center - I have to admit it was a great call on her part as my old glass top coke table and sofa/couches needed to be gotten rid of anyway(perhaps burnt - if only those couches could talk!) We also started on the entertainment center. 2x4 frame with 4x8 maple sheets cut down for the boxes

Finally everything was trimmed up with poplar, stained, polyurethaned and the electronics hooked up (big thanks to BobT for all his help!). We also installed recessed lighting.

The project definitely took a lot longer than I anticipated, mostly due to my lack of knowledge of construction and busy work schedule but the wait has been well worth it! It's far from being a work of art but I was pretty happy with it, as it was my first time tackling anything like this. Next I would like to tackle the bar area, replace the counter tops, sink, turn the old bar fridge into a kegerator but the wife has informed me there are other household projects to attend to first!
