Who is everyone using for short block machining work? I got a rather high quote from a local company and want to shop around. Eastside machinist would be nice but will consider anyone. Thanks

Bob, Go see Dave @ Monarch Machine service in Burlington Ky. On the corner of Limaburg rd and RT 18 He does great work at a affordable price. That's the Guy who did all the machine work on my block, heads, crank and flywheel. That was aug 04 and that motor is still running like a top. I did all the assembly work myself.

Ill second Dave at Monarch, hes been real good to me on past motors. On the other hand, if youre building a high dollar high powered motor, go see BES.

BES is too expensive ... i will put Dave at Midwest Crank up against BES ... dave won the clevite engine builders challenge last year ... im not saying this guy is the greatest engine builder in the world, but dollar for dollar - this guy will save you lots of money versus a shop like BES ~ with the same if not better quality ...

This is not about what cost what or who is the best I am sure there are many engine builders making money for a reason. He asked who people trusted. B.E.S. Still gets my vote. My advise pick many of the engine builders that people have recomended and go talk to them get an Idea what they can do for you. Ask them about cost and how long it will take to do the job. If you are doing engine work right now is a good time to get it done. Once racing season ends the engine shops start getting busy. Once next years rules come out the get Swamped.

I take the side bet on the BES Vs Midwest Crack if they are in any Engine Masters Competitions togther.

I'm I wrong, or did you not bitch about turn-around time, on the motor for the 'vert.

Maybe I missed something about a builder change?

For a basic stock 302 rebuild...can't go wrong with Monarch machine in burlington. They have done the machine work on several stock 302's that I know of that have taken alot of abuse (Dedpedal's last 2 motors for example).

If your building something a bit more exotic....I would look no were else than BES. You get what you pay for...there is a reason that alot of heads up racers use Tony to build their motors...he know's his shit. I had BES build my R block 347. It has run better than even he told me it would...10.8's n/a @3200#. Now I'm getting the car ready to run 9's on the spray. You read and hear everyone bad mouth 5.4" rod 347..use oil, wear out rings faster, bla bla. I have had no oil burning or control issues with my motor. Which you will not if your engine builder knows what he is doing putting it together. Tony (BES) will continue to get all of my future business.
