Tire size

Wasn't sure where to put this but I am sure it doesn't go here. I am looking for some wider tires for the rear. I have a 89 LX and I have the quad shocks removed. I am running 17 in bullets off the new GT's. What is the largest tire I can go with and not have clearance issues. I am running 245/45/17 right now and I plan to keep that on the front just want something wider in the rear without changing the ride height. I have been told that a 275/40/17 is what to go with, but will that fit and not look stupid?

It depends on the offset of your wheels. Are they 17" x 9"?
275 is about the max with a clean look

Pretty sure those rims are 17x8's, and it really depends on what brand of tire you are buying. For example, my fuzion zri 275/40's fit perfectly on a 9" bullit wheel, but a Mickey Thompson 275/40 drag radial looked massive on a set of 17x9 cobra r's.
