Well, I've been holding off on starting this thread, because of title issues but I finally got that all straightened out. Cracka is a 4 cylinder 93 coupe that we are going to put together for my wife to race in the UMTR and drive some. I'll post up some pics tonight.

This thing is pretty solid, the floors and undercarriage are in great shape. The only major body issue is the drivers quarter, but I have a buddy who is going to help fix that up. There isn't any rust anywhere. :bigthumb

Well we've made a bit of progress. Mostly I've just been gathering parts. Here is a list of what is done so far

Engine compartment is stripped of excess wiring and painted
tranny is out and the bellhousing is swapped
70 351w heads are ported and polished and ready to assemble
engine is down to the shortblock and cleaned up.

Here are a couple pics:
http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z90/jonskidmore/IMG_1489small.jpg

I got a great deal on these on Ebay, the only problem is they were listed as 6.5 BS and turned out to be 4.5, in this picture it's fairly obvious, but it wasn't on the ebay pic. I guess we'll be narrowing the rear a bit.:D It will look better that way anyhow.

Here is a pic the wife got of me pulling the tranny, as you can see it's hard to get anything accomplished.

You know me, I don't get in a big hurry about anything. I have been collecting parts for a while. I have the heads ported and put together, the cam is in it. I am going to try to pretty much button up the engine this weekend. We have a 4 inch hood and some nice LX seats that we got at Columbus. I am going to order a quarter panel for the driver side and send it down to my buddy to weld that on as soon as the engine is in and it's movable. Then I'll get it home and start the minor body work and paint. It's hard for me to find time to really get much done.

You guys better hope I don't get it finished, cause it's gonna be bringing home lots of UMTR money this summer.:flipoff:

Well, the heads are bolted on. I was gonna go ahead and check pushrod length and all that jazz, but when I bolted the guideplates on I noticed that they were for 3/8 pushrods.:dummy: So I'm kinda stuck with that for now, so tonight I did some more realistic flame practice. I think this is a little better thna my first attempt.:)

OK here is an update. The engine is together and ready to put in. The interior has been disassembled and cleaned reasonably well. The Gauges are in and wired up as much as possible and the seats are cleaned and ready to go back in. Hopefully I can get the engine and tranny in this week. I still need a few things to make it run, but it's getting pretty close. I'll snap some pics once the engine is in. It is tough putting stuff together from scratch, because I have to try to find all of these weird bolts and small items that I don't think of until the last minute. Hopefully I can get it to my buddy's shop to get a quarter in the next few weeks.

Well I finally got to make some decent progress this weekend. The motor and transmission are in, the 7.5 is out , the 8.8 is bolted in, and the gas tank has been "modified" for carb usage. I am now in need of the little junction for the rear brakes where the rubber line hooks to the hard lines on the car. If any body has one let me know. Here are some updated pics. For some reason I couldn't get the camera to focus right.

Looking good Jon. I went thru the same thing with my rear brake lines but its been so long I don't remember exactly what I did. Let me go look at mine today and I'll let you know.

JonS
01-23-2008, 09:18 AM
Here is an update of things that are finished

new rear shocks installed
gas tank modified for carb and back in
fuel lines are taken care of in the back
radiator is in
prochamber is bolted on
fan and shroud is on
installed a Steeda Triax shifter
Rear wheel wells are beat for big tires ( it looks like a different car with real wheels and tires on it)

I have some used parts on the way. I got a ford ministarter and that stupid bracket/fitting to hook up the rear brake lines coming. I am going to have to get some odds and ends from the parts store and make one more significant order from Summit to finish it up, but if I had all the parts and a couple decent days it could be running and driving really soon.

I thought I had a good driveshaft to put in it, but when I looked at the Yoke, I noticed that the plug is missing, so fluid would just pour right through it. If anybody local has a whole driveshaft or a yoke they would part with let me know. The mufflers have turndowns and hangers welded on, but I don't want to install them until I get the rear brake lines sorted out.

I've made a lot of progress lately, maybe because the site has been down. The engine is running and sounds pretty good, oil pressure is good and it thumps a little bit. It should be drivable by this weekend. The interior is in too. I know it's just a stock LX interior, but if you had seen it before you would understand why I am proud:tongue2:. I plan to start the body work this week. I don't know if it will get painted this year or just in primer, but I am going to strip most of it and get the quarter put on here in the near future. Here are some recent pics. I've still gotta tidy up the wiring to the ignition box and put the solenoid cover on.

I've been under the weather this week, really under the weather. I'm finally feeling a little better, but I missed the warm days to get anything done. Today I FINALLY got the fitting to get the rear brakes hooked up. So the only thing left before a test drive are the hooking up and bleeding the rear brakes and putting in the driveshaft. I am getting kinda anxious to start the body work. If all goes well it might get painted this spring.

I made an effort to get it finished yesterday, but when I went to bleed the brakes last night one of my brake line flares was leaking. It was late so I gave up and watched Willy Wonka. I might try to get it done today if I don't freeze to death first.

What are your plans for paint? Color? 2 tone?

It is eventually going to be black with realistic flames, but it may be in primer this year, we'll have to see. I was just blessed with some new house and garage repairs after this wind they are both missing a sizable section of shingles. I also found out I'm gonna have to spend a couple weeks in New York for work, so I am a bit short on time. I am gonna try to have the quarter replaced while I'm in NY so that time isn't totally wasted.

JonS
02-15-2008, 10:42 PM
Well, I went for a short ride a few minutes ago, and I was pleasantly surprised. That thing feels strong. Granted it was a very short drive, but it was blowing the big drag radials off:bigthumb. Now it's time for some body work.

I got started on the body work this weekend. I managed to get most of the passenger's side stripped, and started fixing some small dents and dings. If things go good I should have the passenger's side taken care of by the end of next weekend.

I figured I'd give an update, its been a long time. The body work is pretty much done. Iam gonna prime the whole car once more then after a final wetsand with 400 it should be ready to turn black. I ended up replacing the passenger side fender due to some dents in very goofy place that I just couldn't get to come out right. The driver's side quarter is on backorder everywhere so I gave up and fixed the existing one. It came out looking really good considering how it started. It wasn't at all rusty , but as you can see in the before picture the arch was really screwed up. and there were all kinds of little dents right on the body line. I went ahead and did a test paint on the quarter just to make sure it was fairly straight and dent free. The pic doesn't show it that well, but it looks pretty good. Here is a before and after.
