View Full Version : whats a good chassis paint?

well, while i have most of my suspension apart i am gonna attempt to paint and protect my suspension and frame, whats a good readily available black paint that isnt too expensive and wont chip off too easily???

I just got 2 quarts of chasis saver from my local KOI paint store. It was about 30 bucks a quart. Not expensive but not cheap either. I will be using it on my coupe. I will let you know how it goes. Check out Kenny's build thread(mustangboy). He did his with chasis saver and it looks killer. Saw it in person.

Remember you get what you pay for. Buy some cheap Rustolium from Wal-mart and it will rust right under it.

pretty far. you can add some reducer to it to thin it out and make it go farther. If you plan on painting your entire underbody and suspension, count on 2 quarts at least. ;)

you dont need it but it can stretch it further. hell, Laquor Thinner would probably work.

i use it on the toys, but i spray it. I thin it down with 10% S8 reducer. works extremly well! (at least for me)

S8 is the reducer that supposed to be used for the stuff

Yeah you have to use their reducer if you use any. Lacquer thinner will slow the dry time waaaaay down. I've sprayed it without reducer. I've never used por15 because it costs so much. This stuff is 75 bucks a gallon where I get it (cheaper in the long run if you have a use for it all) Read the entire label and do as they say and you will be pleased. In my opinion its the next best thing to powdercoating It's a really tough paint.

Oh, and don't get it on your skin unless you want to wash your hands with aircraft stripper and red scotchbrite.

the funny part about por 15 is the ingredients label. There used to be a line that read "contents partially unknown". I you open a can and don't use it all, I recomend that you put plastic wrap betweend the can and the lid if you ever want to get it open again.

no matter what, it is great stuff.
