I believe I am getting ready to purchase a set of GT40 P heads and Intake from an explorer. I was wondering what all I will need to make this setup complete. I am wanting to put new rocker arms on, so I need to know what size i.e 1.6, 1.7? Also what about injectors or TB? Anything else would be appreciated.

Car currently has a 306 from DSS, TFS 1 cam, and stock injectors, Heads, and Intake.

Any advice is greatl appreciated and Thank You in advance!

Brandon

Also I am thinking about having the heads and intake ported... not sure to what degree I should go or who I should contact to do it?

Brandon,

I sent you the pics.

There is a guy on the Corral and other Mustang sites, that goes by the name of tmoss. He does wonders with the gt-40/40ps. A quick search on those sites should yield a bunch of results.

As for the rockers, You will need to go with bolt down pedestal rockers unless you want to have the heads machined for screw in studs. You can usually find Cobra 1.7 ratio roller rockers used for $100 or so. With 1.7 rockers your cam lift goes from .499/.510 to .530/542.

A 65mm or 70mm throttle body and spacer would work and stay with 19lb injectors, they are good to about 300 rwhp. Also, get a stock mass air meter from 94/95 5.0 mustang. This meter is calibrated for 19lb injectors and is 70mm.

This combo with a 5 speed, decent gear, and some good driving will go low 12's easily.

Will I see an advantage/disadvantage in having them machined versus going with the pedestal mount? Also, is it worth having the heads ported or is low 12's still possible without a port job?

Sounds like a good plan. Be sure to have the valve springs upgraded from the stock explorer ones....the stockers will not like the bigger cam. You can definatly gain some noticable horsepower by porting the heads/lower intake. I use to run a stock shortblock combo back in '01-02 (damm it's been that long) that used a set of ported p heads,gt40 intake with ported lower, mild cam (.513 lift), 1 5/8 lt's, 65mm tb,76mm mas, ect. Threw a tremec it put down 296rwhp/320rwtq n/a on the dyno...went a best 12.19 at 110. Threw a bigshot efi nitrous plate kit on it...went low 11's on a 150 shot..and a 10.98 at 126 on a 200 slip sliding down the track. I had Neil Erickson at MIT (http://www.mustangcentral.net/neil)do all the port and head work on those p heads and lower intake (also my current afr 185's and tfs-r lower). Neil does great work at a very reasonable price if your not in a big hurry. He does the head and portwork in his spare time so it takes a 2-3 months for him to get everything done...but it's well worth the wait.

Here is tmoss's website:

Also, The head porter I was referring to is "Thumper" and not tmoss.

Also, I currently have BBK shorty headers... will these work with the P heads?

Brandon, Tmoss is who did my lower manifold, and I definately recomend him. I forgot all about that. Also, I'd sell you my 65mm frpp tb and spacer cheap to match that upper manifold.

after seeing curt (12seclx) pop off 12.24 @ 109 in shitty air, i second this combo ... i wouldnt waste 2500 on a systemax or trick flow combo, when this combo is sufficient ... good luck with your build ...
