View Full Version : QA1 junk

I'm really getting pissed now . I installed a QA1 K on my car to make the turbo kit easier to design. The K member moved my motor taller and slightly to the left. Then I had to bore the holes in the A arm mounts to even get a grounded off nut started on the bolt. Then I mounted my stock A arm after grinding it down just to have the wheels pushed outward more then what my coilover could make up. So Craig orders me up some QA1 arms that QA1 said I "had to use" Turns out that the arms I "had to use" are 1" longer then the damn stock one. I am very lit right now and I'm about to make a road trip to see what type of people they have make their products. Hopefully when I call tomorrow they can give me some sort of explanation. I'm going to bed in hopes of forgetting all the damn problems.

I had the same problem I can only run a 15 inch wheel because of it. If I put a 16 on it rubs the ground effects. QA1 told me to hook a come along to it and ratchet it back after I bored the mounting holes out. Never again will I buy QA1

I have qa1 on the vert, never again. They might fit ok if you have a 91/92/93 with a bigger wheel well opening, other than that, junk.

Before that I had a d&d, those had header clearance problems.

All of a sudden my UPR k-member doesn't sound so bad... lol jk dude. That sucks to hear. Hopefully they will get you taken care of so we can have another garage night and get some more busted out on the "exhaust system." :bigthumb

I have a QA1 K Member and control arms on my coupe, It went on easy slid it all the way back tightened it down and havent had a bit of problems. I had 15" draglites on it at first and am now running 17" bullits. Without any issues. And i am running strange struts, steeda coilovers with Mac caster camber wich everyone says wont work either. and i have a flaming river manual rack. Everything bolted up nice and so far is working out great.

That's because you have a 92. I run mac c/c plates and coilovers also w/no issues.

strange how a company can get away with releasing such garbage... :dunno:

I was planning to use one of those in the future for both my 88, and my 85... guess not...

I had the same issues too. It makes me mad because they tell you it will work with stock A arms. It might if you want to trim your fenders and run some bushwacker fender flares. I had to buy their $350 A arms just to run a 165 without hitting.

Never heard a good story about QA1 k members. Why would you buy one with everyone's bad experience with them?

I had issues with mine as well. I think they patterned it after the 91-93 that had better front geometry but its a pain in the ass for earlier models.

Maximum Motorsports - designed right, build strong, fits like a glove.

No part is truely a "bolt on"....some adjustment/modification is almost always necessary.

I'll have to disagree with this. A well designed k member should bolt right on to a car that hasn't been tweaked.

I know my second k-member (the redesigned unit UPR sent me) was an amazing fit. Looked 100x better than the first POS I received! It required zero modification. Hopefully Bob, if QA1's customer service is anything like UPR's them you should be in good shape! Hell, if I remember correctly they even sent me a bump-steer kit for the hassle. lol

I trimmed two places on my 89 and it works fine. I ran 03 Cobra wheels with no issues. I didnt fit Craigs coupe worth a damn though.

That's the route that I'll go if I ever do a K-member. You might not lose all the weight, but I'd rather know that it's gonna all go together with ease and not break the first time I hit a pothole on the street. :bigthumb

I agree with Ken. I had both AJE and MM K-members on my 2001 Mustang, and have installed PAs on other cars, and NEVER had a fit issue.

You can't say that about UPR or QA1.

You get what you pay for.

QA1 was on my Coupe, but I switched to PA K-member. PA is still on there.:)

I have an AJE k-member and a-arms myself..
No issues.. and I almost went with the QA1 k-member
because that was the struts I was running at the time...

I hope you find a solution!

I'm pretty much not really pissed about the K. Its the A arms the tech guy told me to get that pissing me off. A freaking inch is a big deal. And there is no way I can tell to make these work. I'll be calling them at lunch to see what they have to say about it.

Bob you probably need Fox body a arms. I have read a lot of complaints about the way the QA1 K member pushes the a arms out and the fox a arms seem to be the best fix. I will say that I have a QA1 in my car with their a arms (sn95) and other than having to grind the hell out of a couple of bolts I don't think there was really any problems with it, though you would have to ask rscoupe since he installed it.

I am not a fan of anything made by QA1, their k-members always have issues, i have a brand new shock that will not adjust and a new strut that is blown. I would send it back and buy a PA.

bobtsgt
10-17-2007, 10:22 AM
thats the thing. If I put their fox arms on it will bring my ball joint back to the stock location and not change my current status. Its like I need the fox arms plus another 1" cut off of them. I'm going to call in an hour and see what they say.

The PA's are nice but I think they are kind of pricey if you want to use the stock a arms since things like spring perches are extra.

I have a qa1 k member and my only issue was that is increased wheelbase by .75in. I guess i could have slotted the holes but it was already on and didnt want to take it off. Wheelbase increased but engine position was the same (front to back). Anyhow its been on a few years and will be replaced by a PA unit this winter. Didnt have any issues with motor mounts or a arms. Im running GMS arms (real nice BTW), Strange 10 ways and MMR coilovers.

money is no object right now. Getting the damn thing running is what I'm lookin at. I don't need to use the stock arms at all. I hoped to use the stocks to save money since I have the Strange set up.

bobtsgt
10-17-2007, 12:24 PM
well this week another tech guy said I CAN use the stock arms. Plus he said my CC plates should give the adjustment I need. I told him the tire sticks in too far and if I move the plates my coilovers hit the frame. So unless I chop the frame I won't get what I'm looking for. and now he says I need the threaded rod end arms so I can cut them to whatever length I need.I knew I should have just kept the stock crap on and work around it.

Bob, ditch the QA1 crap and go with PA Racing. I put PA's K and A-arms on the 90 with no problems. I am about to switch it over to the 93 and don't expect any issues there either.

Think I am going to stick with the K since the turbo is already mounted and my downpipe and cold side pipes are already made. I have a set of arms I am going to try tonight to see if they work for me.
