Lets hear it what got you into mustangs?

When I first started driving I had an 88 Monte SS, and let me tell you what I hated mustangs. Just for the shear fact that they all would bust my ass on the street. Hell I even thought half the guys that drove them where cocky assholes. Then one day for some reason my Dad came home with 89 lx Vert. Still to this day I have no idea why he bought that car. He was always a die hard Chevy man. I drove the car a few times and I have been hooked ever since.

I was a Camaro kid practically from birth. My cousin raced a 454ci '79 Z28 and i grew up obsessed with that car. Fast forward about 18 years and my best friend gets an '87 LX 5.0, bone stock 5 speed car. He's a wheeler-dealer with cars and we've always had this thing where he'll get a new car and i always take it for a drive. Well, i didn't expect much from the little 302, but after beating it around the block i was blown away and 6 months later i bought my first Mustang, an '88 GT. I'm on #3 now and honestly don't have any aspirations to own a Camaro unless i could afford a full blown restoration on an older one.

There was always some sort of mustang in the family, Waaaaay before i was born my grandma and grandpa bought a '66 289 coupe right off the assembly line, drove it for a while, gave it to my aunt, then my aunt gave it to my dad who then put a 351w sidepipes, big and little aluminum slots and the whole nine yards, he then gave it to my mom and it rusted out before i was born... my grandma had a '77 Mustang II which i remember as a kid, who didnt know much about cars, as being a mustang... that car eventually became my first car when i was about 15 which i still own... and of course movies and tv shows always had cars with the horse in the grille :D

and i also remember being in school and seeing books on mustangs and checking them out of the library, and as far back as i can remember i had been drawn to the foxbodies and the 71-73's because of those books.... and still am, even though i have a soft spot for the II's

My first car was a 66 coupe, got it when I was 14. Completly redid it with a 302, 4yanker, repainted red with black guts. Got it done when I was 15 1/2, and ended up selling before i ever got my licence ( kick myself in the ass to this day) Been a Mustang fan since!!!!!!!!! have owned an 86 GT, 88 LX 5.0 Coupe, and a 92 LX 5.0 coupe, Currently building the 85 Vert!!!!!!!

It must have been '66 or '7, and the infamous 289s started showing up in quantity around our town. Of course, the Chevys' were all over the place, and the majority of go fasters built and run them, and I actually got tired of seeing them. Then, a friends older brother came home with a '66 Mustang 289 4v, 4 speed. The car was a HiPo, and it would rev like there was no upstairs! It ran 13s at the strip with headers, slicks and traction bars, and idled like a kitten. After that, it was the Horse emblem running the wrong way for me. :coo1:

always loved the looks and sound of a 5.0 growing up and always told myself that one day I would own one.

My first car was a 78 Mustang II. Man I loved that car, I look back now and couldn't imagine if had been a Camaro. God bless the FORD gods. I'm on my 3rd Stang and 9th Ford.:D

I had grown up around mustangs. My dad had a black 86GT with some minor bolt ons and 4:10 gears and man i still remember (i was 8-9 at the time) how much power it had and it would just roast the tires. So I told myself once I could afford one when i got older that i would own a 5.0 mustang.

I think I was concived in the back seat of my dads 1969 mach I which he bought new and still has to this day:lol: My family has had more mustangs that any other family on this board and you can take that to the bank.(I have a REALLY big family) Pops retired from the Sharonville plant after 31 years. Had a grandfather retire and too uncles. Being born into a ford family like i was how could you not be into mustangs? They are all I have ever known. Took my drivers test in my moms 95 gt in the snow and still passed..... the second time:lol:

I got out of a bad relationship and wanted a car to play with. I had allways been GM and Mopar so I looked around for a newer car with a v8 (not getting that with mopar), dual exhaust (no chevys there) and a 5 speed. I ended up driving a friends 87 GT and was impressed with the power it had and it fit the bill so I bought an 86 t top car. Ive been a legend ever since.

I had a few in high school because they were fast and cheap. Then I got into Chevy's...then trucks...then Mustang's... then boats. I was out of fast cars for a while and one day the wife says I would like to get another Mustang and I said don't tease me:nono: She says I just want one to be left alone and drive around...no mods! This in the Cobra I bought 3 years ago...and I kept it pretty much stock:lol::lol::lol: Then we buy the flamer and now she's pushing to me make it faster for her:rolleyes:

Hi
Started out with a 57 chev 6 banger and dad was olds man. My brother and I shared the car and within a year we had a v8 thrown in.:D Had fun bodywork, etc. and finally a earl schrib paint job. those were the days.. Dad bought a '64 ford wagon 289 stick (6 brothers and sisters) Got to drive it and burned a few chevs. Many cars later (no fords) and a wrecked a motorcycle, a mustang vert.
No going back now!!

My first car was a 70 something Gia (sp?!) mustang. Slowest piece of shit ever. But got great gas milage. Was the ugliest car ever. But for some reason I have always loved the stance of a stang. For as long as I can remember I've wanted one. Now I have one!! Or we have two!!

When my dad was in high school, one of his friends parents bought him a BOSS 302. My dad always lusted after that car, but my grandparents refused to buy him a muscle car. When my dad was in the air force, he finally had the money to buy himself a new car, but it was '78 so... he bought a Mustang II! LOL! It was actually a fun little car, but it was a v6 with mild mods so it wasn't fast. It would hang with his buddy's big block T/A in the twisties though, I remember hanging corners on the way to Boonesborough down here in Ky.

In 1982, "the BOSS is back!" was the slogan and my dad wanted one badly, but he was fresh out of college and didn't have the money. Then in 1985 he met Gregg Montgomery. Gregg had just purchased a red 1985 GT and my dad was obsessed with it. Finally in the position to buy a new car again, he ordered a brand new 1986 GT with something called electronic fuel injection. We didn't know what to expect, but we picked it up from Krieger Ford on Jan 2nd, 1986. It was a blast!!!

We installed every part SVO made for the car, but it was slim pickins' back then. I learned almost everything I know about modifying mustangs from that car.

Naturally, when I turned sixteen I wanted a mustang, but my dad wouldn't let me have a V8 for a first car. I bought a four cylinder '88 LX and pimped it out. Drove it for a year and then on the week of the homecoming dance in my senior year of high school, he finally let my buy my first V8. A super clean 1987 GT! I haven't been right ever since!

My dad got me into the Stangs. He has over 30 of them His favorite was 68 with a 390cu and a 4 speed. My first was a 76 CobraII.. That was a cool car, it didn't start out all that fast , but after the Chevy engine and trans got installed it ran low 12's for me and high 11's for dad....He was / is a far better driver. Now I'm too far in debt to get out. Maybe one day:bigthumb
I do like the mustangs , however there is just way too many of them
around. If I could afford my dream car there would be a Red with Black stripes 70 LS6 Chevelle 454 4 speed in the garage instead of the 88GT.

They're fast and cheap. You can write off a Mustang for what an engine rebuild costs in on a Porsche. It's the same reason my dad raced Corvettes in the 60s. You can't beat an American V8 for racing on the cheap.

well i remember when i was 10 or so and my uncle started driving. he didnt have a mustang but he was always working on cars and tradeing up for better ones. he had always liked mustangs and he finally got one and i remember thinking to myself that someday im going to own a mustang. Then when they came out w the 05 body style i thought it was so sweet. because it had the classic look of the '67 '68. so in july of this year i finally got my first mustang and i love it. its only a V6 because i couldnt afford insurance on a GT but nevertheless its still a mustang and if i wasnt hooked before i got my car i am def. hooked now. i will own a mustang for the rest of my life. by the way there are some great storys on here.

My dad was always a Ford man. My first car was a 70 Pontiac LaMans with a 350 Olds motor in it. Went on from there to a 77 Camaro to a 79 LTD to a 67 Camaro To a Pontiac Fiero ect...... I have always liked the early 60's Mustangs but when I was 16 my older brother got a 79 cobra I fell in love and wanted one I went through my share of "fast" mustangs HA HA HA!!(Just ask IBSTROKIN) and then got a clean 91vert and is was on from there I went from a high 13sec vert to a 10sec street car now (NA) I love em Fox bodies are still my fav. but love them all!!!:bigthumb

my first car was a 78 Mustang II coupe with a 4 cylinder.
dad bought an 84 GT in 86, when i got my license and i lusted after that car (i have it now!)!
he wouldnt let me put a 302 in the II, but he did let me build a 2.8 v6 for it...claimed he didnt want me killing myself... lunati cam, offy 4bbl intake, 390cfm holley ported/milled heads, bored .030" and balanced. with 4.11 gears and a 4 speed it ran a best of 14.29 @94 mph.
he didnt think i could build that 2.8 to "run" he later admitted!

I always liked the idea of a reasonably fast car that had AC that you could drive to the track and beat on and still drive to work everyday.

I'm not "in" to Mustangs, but I love the 03/04's Cobra's. I wanted to go fast without spending a rediculous amount of money and I couldn't do that owning Audi's. (big Euro car guy). Plus the looks on peoples faces when they hear it coming. Can't put a price on that kind of stuff.

I was not a Mustang guy until my wife and I first started dating. She had an 02 True Blue GT Auto with gray interior when we met, later traded that in on an 03 Torch Red 5spd GT. A lady I used to work with at O'Charleys left to to go to Kings Ford as a sales person and would stop in an tell me she had the perfect car for me on the lot. I finally drove up there one day to look at a used 01 Cobra and between her and Rachel they "talked me into" my car( the car kind of sold itself). :D Before the Mach, I went though soooo many cars, switching them out every few months but now I don't think I could ever sell this car. :bigthumb

I got into Mustangs because my brother had a 4 cylinder for his first car, he sold it to get an 85 gt with t-tops which was a cool car, that car got wrecked and he put the engine in an 88 gt which i later bought from him. Now i have a 2007 GT, i miss the 88 but I still love the new one.

I was 12 years old when the first Mustang was produced. It made quite an impression on me in 1964. After a series of Mustangs (last being an 04 Cobra), I bought an 07 Z06; it's still hard not to see a Stang in the garage. I'll be back.

My Dad got me my first car. A 73 plymouth satalite 4 door. He figured if I hit anything, it was so long, I would never feel it. Then I graduated to a 73 Charger. I poured my blood sweat and tears into that car. Right about then I met Kevin and we would work on our cars at my shop. Then I got married, the first kid came and the charger got sold. fast forward to when I reallystarted posting on here. I got the pile for 100 bucks and have been on a quest to get a decent stang ever since. Hopefully this spring, I will bring my coupe to the spring cruise in and all will be right with the world.

Hey, that's the same reason Vinny got into them!

And of course, he is the one who got me into them! We went out "on a date" one night the first summer we met (2000), and he let me drive his mustang home (it was stock back then). We got on 52 and got up next to another mustang, a friend of mine, and we both took off from the light and I smoked him! Vinny always told everybody that story, the first time I drove a mustang, I beat another one, hands down, my first street drag race!

I was always a chevy guy. I can't remember how many times I would see a Z28 out on the road and think, one day I will own one. I worked at Burnett Rent A Car when I was a 18 and they had a Z-28 there. I got to drive it a few times and thought that it was gods gift to man. My oldest boy has always been a Mustang fan and that made me want a Z-28 even more just to show him that the Z had more balls than his Pony. But then one weekened last November the family and I were on 32 headed up to Eastgate and there was a foxbody GT (80ish) and a 2000 something Z-28 side by side at the traffic light at old 74 and 32. The light turned green and the mustang was history. We caught up to both of them at Walmart and I talked to them and they were both pretty much stock cars other than exhaust and CAI's. That Monday I went looking for a foxbody mustang and bought one that same week. I was fortunate enough to find one that already had some mods done to it and with a few xtra tweaks here and there from me and a couple more bolt ons she runs in the 12's consistently N/A in full street trim. I can drive it in the rain, in the heat, in the cold, to the track or anywhere else and I can even rotate my tires seeing I have 245/45/17's all the way around and no skinny's on the front. I dont even think about Chevy's anymore.

Way back in high school I was a chevy guy. A good buddy was a ford guy. Shortly after high school he died suddenly. I bought a mustang to honor his memory and love of mustangs and all things ford. Hence my screen name Dedicated5.0. Well, I got hooked and have owned mustangs ever since. I still think about my lost friend every time jump in the stang.

I started getting interested in them back in middle school. Buying all the magazines and mainly looking at all the pictures. Even though my first car came at age 16 was a 2dr escort. I ended up selling it and buying my first stang at 18 my senior year. I still own the 96 and will continue unless I kill it beyond repair.

if it wasnt for meeting tim duncan back in 1999, the car may have been stock until this day ... thanks tim for ruining my stock car & now i want to run mid 10's

my dad had a mustang when he was in high school. wrecked it in milford. fixed it and then sold it. he went quite a long time without one. the next one he bought in 98 which is his 70 mach1. i enjoyed helping him work on it. then when i was 11-12 my mom wanted a mustang with a 5spd 302. my dad looked around and bought an 89 lx 25th anniversary for her. that was the first car i ever drove on the road(at age 12), and only stalled once. then she decided she wanted a vert. so my dad found her current 86 vert. my dad took me drag racing and i drove the vert while he drove the mach. i beat him and his buddy(69 mach), and had fun. but i needed a faster car. so i started my current project, when i found all the stuff for it, my 89 lx 4cyl(aka a 351W swap car :))

My dad had a 68 289 HiPo coupe, and bought a 78 Cobra II in 1980. He sold the coupe to move to SC to be with my mom (dumbass). The cobra was long gone before I was born. As long as I can remember it has always been mustangs. All my hotwheels were mustangs, and loved hearing the stories my dad had about his coupe. Once I was old enough to start obsessing about mustangs, around middle school, I would read every issue of MM&FF and 5.0 front to back 3 or 4 times. Then in 95, my dad bought a 91GT, and we did some bolt ons to it and I fell in love with that car. In 2002 I bought it, and now it pretty much just sits in the garage collecting dust. Hopefully I will get to drive it again some day.

I was into muscle cars when i was younger, mostly because all of my friends had them. I was a GM girl for the longest time. When the mustangs first started getting popular, i thought they were for snotty rich kids lol. I didnt care about fuel injection, carbs was where it was at. The Philly street scene was huge back then. I still remember this one guy, who had a big blue oval sticker on his back windshield. We called him "Ford Country". Everyone who street raced had a handle. Anyways......

I went through camaros & trans ams & novas, and one day my good friend Craig let me drive his 11 sec fox mustang. It was the first time i ever drove a stick car. I was pretty hooked after that. Only stalled it twice too :D My dad had bought a brand new 92 Black on black GT....and one day i decided to trade in my 87 TA for a mustang of my own. So i searched all day and finally found a worked 88 LX at a chevy dealer no less. I had to have a friend drive it home cuz i really hadnt driven stick in over a year. I was so nervous my dad would be mad at me for bringing yet another car home lol..... all he said to me was "about time!" I tought myself how to drive stick, i still remember being so scared rolling it down the driveway

I think im on my 10th mustang now, i cant imagine not having one. I still wish i didnt sell the 67 Camaro though hehe.

I have never owned a Mustang but I wanted a 64-68 Mustang when I first started driving. Never could find one that wasn't a complete pile of rust for a good price so I wound up with a 72 Camaro. Later on I found a half decent 65 Mustang and talked my dad into buying it. My brother wound up with it and still has it today. I liked driving it and wouldn't mind having one like it. I'm just an old school kind of guy.

I was at the Mopar Nationals(that's right, used to be all mopar), and ran into a buddy from Canada that owned a Hemi Cuda. I asked him where his car was and he said over there: and pointed to a red mustang coupe. It was a 90 coupe, stripped down with no options. I asked him where his cuda was and he said since he bought the mustang, he hardly drove the cuda anymore. I was not an easy sell and he said let me give you a ride. That was all it took. I went home and 6 months later bought my vert from the next door neighbor and still have it. Haven't looked back since.

I had always loved Mustangs, but I couldn't afford one and my parents wouldn't let me buy one at first. When I was 18 my girlfriend had a black 94 V-6 and I was hooked. We modded that car while we were together and normally I drove it while she drove my Sunbird GT Turbo. I shortly sold the Sunbird and picked up a Probe GT for 7 or 8 months.....durring that time we broke up. That fall I started working full-time and could afford a newer car so I started looking at stangs....a V-8 and 5 speed were a must.

Eventually I decided on buying a left-over '98 GT right after the 99's had come out. I picked that car up on 1/6/99 and have been hooked since. :D

A friend of mine bought a 5spd. 87' GT, medium scarlet w/ gry interior
back in 2000'... stock as a rock... w/ a k & n filter and hurst shifter...
went to the track and ran a 14.5 on street tires.... the mods started and
I always got dragged into it somehow and I was hooked with the street racing scene from the get go.... :D

I like how the fox stangs were reasonably priced, easy to mod up and work on.... I was fond of the coupes but wanted a nice clean one... finally come across a decent one in Jan. 2003 and started the build... haven't been able to go to rehab since....

A guy I used to work with when I was 18 gave me a book as a grad. gift,It was called ,a father's guide to his son, the only part of the book I remember is " own a convertible at some point in your life", so @ 19 I had just got a new job making $7/hr, and had my eye on this 88 vert at a car lot near my house. It was downhill from there, it has been the biggest obsession in my life. At times I have put it before women, house, responsibilities. But I have met countless people because of it,many great freinds, good times, even job oppurtunities.

I've had my car for 14 yrs now, it's still not perfect, not finished, not fast enough, but that's how I like it. The day I think my car is a completed project, is the day it needs to belong to someone else.

My first car (in 1989) was an 82 4cylinder, 4-speed notch with black interior and stipped. No radio, no console, no ashtray, nothing. I went through 2 engines in that thing. I wanted to put a 351 in it but never went through with it. I ended up selling the thing for 100 bucks because I was young, dumb and full of . . . . well you know. It needed another motor and I didn't have the cash.

I miss that car at times. :(

My mom's 70 Coupe and a friend's Dad's 70 Grabber Blue Boss 302.

My first was a 79 V6 hatch. Followed by several Capri RS's and GT's.
