With the cost of converting to mass air being so cheap these days, I cant see any reason to stay with speed density. Of coarse scary fast is subject to debate.. You can buy the harness from here... http://www.massfloefi.com/ It retails for $50.00, pick up an A9L from any # of guys here on the board and your most of the way there. After you figure out how much power you want to make, you just pick up the injectors and the meter calibrated to run them and you'll never have to worry about keeping the stock cam in the speed density car. Changing the duration #'s tends to make them run like shit, although there have been some exceptions.

You can do a lot of stuff to stock SD, hell I managed to get my old SSP coupe running 6.80's @ 114-117 on a 9" slick stock suspension ( no really stock suspension with just shocks/struts and SSM lowers), in the 660 with a stock SD computer. I even drove the car in the gate every time, I even took the car out running around in town but with a 4.30 gear and a c4 I could not stand to drive it every day.

I would do all of the bolt on mods, minus injectors if you drive it every day, cobra/GT40 intake, 65/70mm TB, ram air ( I got one for sale :D ), DRY nitrous, FPR, FP, pulleys, smog/AC delete, E fan, headers, gear, shocks, struts, springs, and control arms.

All of these mods can be carried over if you do decide to convert to MAFS, but IMO SD cars still run harder then MAFS cars.

You can do pretty much all of the bolt ons other than a cam, so I would see no problem building a mid 12 second NA car with speed density. Add some nitrous and you'll be flying. I will say that Mass Air made life more enjoyable on my 86,it was a lot closer to stock back then.

COBRA upper/lower and stock injectors stock cam with a 1.7 rocker
and 355 gear and a 75 shot equaled to a 12.0 on slicks...Speed density can be cool.

I went 10.6 @ 126 granny shifting w/ speed density, stock cam(the secret to SD), gt-40 heads, stock intake, big shot kit, stock injectors, stock throttle body. Basicly you can change everything but the cam and the injectors and still have great idle and drivability.

Did you run that 10.60 at 26 with stock 19pound injectors?

Yes he really did go that fast with all the stock parts he listed above...I've seen his car run and it's very impressive...I just so happen to know the guy that bought the heads that were on that car when it went that...the guy that bought those heads is a super nice guy!!!!

With the stock cam, did you also use the stock lifters and pushrods?

Yes, a bunch of stock stuff. Would've went faster but the t-5 and the stock 28 spline traction loc broke on the line all at once. I used a wet kit big shot plate kit. 40psi fuel, 19 lb injectors, stock lifters and pushrods, and the short block now owned by paul5oh, 306 real street short block. It made 252 rwhp on motor (tuned at MD's dyno) and a lot on spray! Lots of people seen it run in with that set up. 89notch, rob, metcalf,93 hulk, Ken at MD plus many others. Needless to say it got a lot of attention at Tristate when I took the hood of and everyone seen iron heads, stock intake and throttle body, shorty headers, even a clutch fan lol. The car weighed about 2800 w/ me in it on 26x10's w/ 1.43 60 ft. The pass before the stuff broke i decided to powershift but had to lift due to the grass being very close. It went 4.11 in the 330 so I think it would have run 9's on a perfect pass. One day in the future I'll go 9's w/ speed density!

Oh yeah I forgot to turn the spray on once that day, The car left and nosed over hard so I pushed the clutch, reached over and turned the bottle on, got back in it and went 13.35@135!!!!!
