Here's a clip of my ranger.
Motor stats are
97 2.3 block.
00 2.5 crank.
Block was bored .040 by Steve Barker.
Head was ported by me and then redone by Smyth's.
I ported the intake as well.
Stage 1 Racer Walsh cam.
Magnaflow muffler and catalytic converter.

That sounds cool! I'll have to get a clip of the 2.3T stang when it gets back on all 4 wheels.

Sounds pretty sweet! So is it all motor or turbo? I've been meaning to make a clip of the Merkur but i've been sick :(

All motor, a turbo would blow it with my compression. I forgot to mention I had the head decked .020 as well. I need to get it on a roller to see what it's got.

How many RPMs is it worth, or are you waiting on the dyno to tell you?

Whatever the stock rev limiter allows. I never had it removed because well...I'd blow it up. Tose valves are probably good for 7000 I'd guess. I think stock rev limit is 6200.

That's something i really wanna do with the Merkur, i want more RPM out of it. Right now i'm afraid of taking it past 5k because i just don't know what to expect out of it.

Bah, spin that 2.3t up to around 6200-6300. She'll take it.

Well, considering mine is totally stock except for a straight pipe exhaust and a manual boost controller (16ish psi), at what point is power going to drop off anyways from lack of intake/head flow?


Also do either of you (or anyone else) know the details of porting an E6 manifold? I've got another one that i'd like to clean up and port the crap out of :lol: I was also reading about electrolytic rust removal....one of the guys on the Merkur forum did this on an E6 and it took the rust right off of it.


As for the Ranger, how extreme of a port job did you do on the head? Bigger valves or just cleaned up the ports?

Valves were stock and my head has nothing in common with a turbo head. The old heads can make better performance. The turbo motor should have had the D port head which flows much better than my 2nd gen (small spring) dual plug head. I basically port matched the head to the gaskets and did the best I could with what I have to work with. As far as time I probably spent about 1.5 hours per cylinder on it.

I have an extra E6 sitting in the garage too, I am just going to get it dipped at the local machine shop to clean it up. I am going to start porting it when I get back from the desert. I also have a hogged out upper and knife edged lower I need to install.
