I have a 2003 Windstar that just turned over a 100k on the odometer and the trans just stopps working. WTF!!!!!!!!! I went to WalMart to pick up some groceries. Drove the car there with no problems at all. Shut the van off, bought my shit, stuffed the van with my kids and food, started it up and put in gear........N O T H I N G? WTF??? I thought. I checked the fluid level and all and found nothing out of the ordinary. Did a little research and apparently these things suck for bad trannies. But never thought that it would just go out like that. I don't know a whole lot about getting the trans out of this thing so it looks like I will be getting a crash course soon. Not something to look forward to for a winter project. Sorry for the venting.

Sounds like the same thing that just happened to me in my Taurus. I think they even have the same trannies. Get ahold of Transman(Steve) here on the board. He is very quick and reasonable. Good luck.

100k Ford/GM/Mopar FWD Autotragic kaboom.
How often was fluid changed?
15k Severe duty schedule, every third oil change you hit the slushbox.

Same thing happened to my brother's 99 Windstar. I looked at it and tried to research it to see how difficult it would be to do it and told him if I had to absolutely do it I could but he needed to take it somewhere. Just looked like a total clusterfuck to do without a lift. Ended up getting a deal, guy did it for 1500.00.
Thanks Bone for that info. My Mother has a 98 Windstar as well so I'll need to change the tranny fluid out next time I do her oil.

yeah I just changed the fluid with the Mercon 5 that it calls for and 6 months later...well looks like I am pulling it. has any one pulled it from the top? I know that I can take some parts off that will really open up the engine compartment. Just asking? Where is the pump located and how hard is it to change? I was told it was a nightmare.
