Sad thing is, your best to pay out of pocket for the repairs.
Say the repairs = $1100, your already gonna pay the first $500, then your rate jumps $50 (or more!) for 6 months, will be on your record for atleast 3 years, so thats another $300 your out over the long term.
Now your thinking, but I'd be $300 ahead if I claim it, you'd be right. But "what if" you have another incident, say a year later, 2 flags on your insurance and it ends up jumping $150 for 6 months for the last two years.
$100 first year
$300 for second and third year
yep, you get screwed in the long run by insurance company on "small" claims.
Likely you left the mp3 player in plain view, crime of oppurtunity (sp), same reason laptops are stolen from cars.
My wrecked 93 Civic HB has been sitting on the street for 8 months, still driveable but totalled out. Last Sept. I caught someone shining a flashlight in it. Sure enough the next night someone came to get inside. I was sitting at the house ACROSS from moms, which is up for sale, hiding behind the bushes with a clear view of my car.
Once I'd heard the voices, I looked out an waited. Once I'd heard them TRYING to get past the passenger side door lock, I racked the 870 Remington and LOUDLY stated "WTF you boys doing to that car?"
1 white male and 1 black male took off running, white male was winning the foot race, guess he was scared. I ended up calling Colerain TWP police, just so happens the officer that lives 4 doors down was on his way home, didn't see anyone.
Yeah, he chewed my ass out for what I did, but said he understood.
Our street will be getting street lights this summer, extra $1.50 a month per house on the tax bill. Mom went around with the petition, only need 51% road frontage for the street, got 82% :)

Do you have vadalism coverage on your insurace? It should be covered under the comprehensive portion of your policy
