What all is needed to do the pi swap to a 96 gt? Can anyone help

Ive been reading a lot about this, and they say it is easier, and just about as cheap to drop a 01-04 4.6L motor into a NON PI car. I am wanting to do this in the near future when I find my 96-98.

A lot of J/Y's get about 900-1000 for an 01-04 motor complete with low miles. It is supposed to be a direct bolt in, and all of the wiring is supposed to be the same. But I also have heard you have to modify something with the tranny, but they say it is way easier than swapping the heads and intake.

I can let you know hopefuly in about 4 to 5 months ;).

for the cash to power equation it is very worth it. don't hesitate to ask any questions along the way

I picked up 70-80 HP when I did the PI swap and long tubes on my 98. I don't know what I made before the swap but after the swap I made 260hp and 288 ft-lbs at the wheels. Over I am pretty happy with the results.

Was a tune required after the swap?

you don't have to but a tune as always will make you perform the best you can.

I didn't gain a lot of hp after tuning but I picked up a ton of mid range torque. It was pretty rich before we tuned it. It was not required but it did improve drivability.

Thanks for the info. I have 145k on the motor and wonder if it is even worth the money. I am also looking to find a lower mileage motor for the car. Thanks again.

You might be better off looking for a PI engine. One out of an Explorer would work really well since you would also drop about 80 lbs. off the nose with the aluminum block.

do you have the pi heads now.if so do you want to get rid of them? or have you found a motor yet
