Well a month ago I contacted Vortech about an upgrade to my blower. I wanted it converted from a YS to a YSI. Mine is rated to about 1000hp and 1500cfm. The YSI is good to 1200 hp and 1600cfm. They quoted me a price around $550 or so. So this week I sent my blower to them and they called me and quoted me a price of $1200. I said well ship the blower back to me and I will sell it....

They did call me back and work with me a little and said they could go low as $800. They said it cost more than $500 in parts as the impeller is bigger and the housing had to be change.....

This just keeps adding up... so I have the weekend to debate wether or not it is worth the $$$$ to upgrade

Should I just run what I got and save the money and next year upgrade to BIG Turbo and Intercooler?

I kind of wanted to go FAST this year!:(

Opinions are welcome.:)

What could you sell yours for and how much extra would it take to make the power of just having vortech upgraded? If you are going to spend more than 800, then just have it upgraded. You know it will fit and work. Going from a blower to a turbo is going to cost you big $$$$.

Why did the quote change? If the quote changed because some things needed maintenance, then extra for upgrades. If that's the case your already going to be spending money, then I say upgrade. If the quote changed for no good reason, I would have them send it back and be happy with 1000 hp.

Terry at this point I would just stick with what you have. Just get it on the road and get all the little bugs worked out and enjoy it for the year. Come fall after having a blast and saving a little money you can then decide if you want to upgrade. I honestly think that suspension is going to have more than it can handle w/ 1000hp anyway.;)

I hate the price change and that is what bothers me the most. I guess it is relatively "cheap" Hp., and I would have to spend a lot more $$$ elsewhere to get the same kind of results. Also I would hate to get to the track and be right on the line of some .00's and not make it to the next level...... I guess I will have to suck it up and just do it now or regret it later. At this point whats a few more dollars, Right?

upgrade to the YSi.

You have to go faster every year to keep up with the Joneses. You switch to a turbo and you'll be out at least a year and you're also throwing away all the time invested in the current combo.
