Dude, it's ricer. Japanese eat lots of rice. Japanese cars are call rice-burners. "Ricer" is based upon a racial sterotype.
You are in a public school. Wearing a shirt like that to school is stupid and if I was in charge, I'd separate your ass from the rest of the kids too until you learn how to wear clothes that are appropriate. What are you going to do? Street race the "ricers" in the halls?
Think about it man, it's just common sense. Time to grow up a bit.

DUDE! It's a shirt that has NO racial overtones, It's referring explicitly to CARS that are IMPORTED. I have never heard another human being called a Ricer as a racial slur in my entire freaking life. People need to get their panties out of their ass and realize that the only people that are shouting "racism racism" are the very ones perpetuating it. Crap man, its a shirt that says "all Bling and no Zing makes you a ricer", not all bling and no zing makes you a ch*nk, holy crap. We are too concerned that someone might take something to wrong way to even have fun anymore.
The Japanese eat a lot more than rice, in fact, Rice consumption is SO LOW in Japan, that Rice farmers have taken to making Rice Bread so that it can be sold. Think about common sense again.
end rant.

+1, The school is fixing a situation before it's a problem. From their point of view, it's cheaper to have you stop wearing the shirt than to have a court battle because someone may be offended. If they got sued they would have at least 10k in expense, are you going to pay that? No.
No big deal, stop wearing the shirt, problem solved.
I understand that you would have to be pretty sensitive to be offended by that shirt, but some people could.

And yes, "ricer" does have a racial overtone.
It's kind of like calling me a "round eye", I wouldn't be offended, but it still has a racial overtone.

You know what bro. Maybe is "ISS" they can learn you how to spell and punctuate properly.
I'm thinking your reaction to them telling you to take it off might have had something to do with it. Did you ever try just saying: "Yea No problem, I see how that could offend (a liberal attention whore) someone, I'll just run home and grab another shirt..."
I bet if you would have said that, they would have been like ok cool.
Sorry for being harsh but come on, you have NO rights in a public school when part of the majority.

There are no set rules when it comes to Public High Schools. They adapt and change the rules to manage specific situations. Nothing is set in stone! And they have all the backing from everyone who matters (Police Officers, Judges/Magistrates, and "Third Party Hearing Officers...")

The term "rice burner" was coined referring to Asian, particularly Japanese, cars and motorcycles. The term "ricer" then refers to the fags who drive or ride these cars and motorcycles. "Ricer" does not refer to a person of Asian decent. The context is demonstrated by the fact that this is a shirt put out by a car club for American cars which are competitive with Japanese cars. So "ricer" is either being racist against a vehicle or it's being a carrist against people who have them.
Giving the kid ISS for being racist against a car, is just gay. Next someone will tell me that saying "gay" is racist too and then I'll have to explain that gay is not a race. Shew...
I'm very much against real racism. I find it very offensive. However, as much as I try I can't seem to find where someone has the right to not be offended. I do often find where people have a right to the freedom of speech and expression. Go ahead, tell me about how it's completely different since it's a public school. I mean, my taxes pay for these public schools too. Where are my positions represented?

A student who is offended has a much weaker case than a student who's freedom of expression was infringed upon. The school has their priorities backward from either arguement.

Right or wrong, the schools standpoint is to keep disruptions to a minimum. As more of these kinds of things happen, and the envelope is pushed by students, you will see more schools enforce a standard school uniform.
It's High School...It's supposed to be preparing you to become a productive adult.
Do you think you can "express" yourself like that a respectable good paying job?
Last i checked, i haven't noticed too many professional people in the working world wearing T-shirts with controversial remarks on them. You are free to wear what you want...just not at school or at work.
Dude, you think High School is bad...lol...wait until you go to work for a company, or even worse a corporation.
they have express written dress codes detailing EXACTLY what you are able to wear, how you wear it, how long your hair can be, what type (and color) of shoes you wear, what types of jewelry (if any) you are allowed to wear, rules about tattoos, and piercings and so on, and so on.( Hell, when i worked for Coke, if you were caught drinking a competitors brand of drink when on the clock, or in uniform, or in a company vehicle, that was grounds for termination, and that included EATING at any of PepsiCo's restaurants such as TacoBell, KFC, PizzaHut, and even Chipotle's)
so enjoy High School now, and dont be in a big hurry to grow up and work your ass off the rest of your life!
someday you may look back and realize that school was the best time of your life...getting to hang with your friends all day, and not having a million responsibilities staring at you from sun up to sun down.
At the same time though, I think In School Suspension was a bit too harsh...welcome to the world of "zero tolerance".

(Rice burner, a pejorative used initially to describe Asian-made — specifically Japanese-made — motorcycles and automobiles. Many variations have also been used, such as rice rocket for Japanese sport bikes. More contemporary use of the term rice burner, along with the prefix rice, has taken on an alternate pejorative meaning for an automobile that has been modified to give impression of high performance, but does not necessarily have any high-performance capabilities.)

Public schools are terrible at everything they do, much like the rest of the government. Why would people continuously put more responsibility on schools when they can't even handle what they've got now? It's a family's responsibility to prepare kids to become a productive adult. It's a schools responsibility to teach kids reading, writing, arithmetic, etc. The schools fail in most cases to teach even these most simple skills and all you want to do is make them responsible for more. The government is the only place that routinely promotes and advances based on failure.
There is also very little comparison between attending school, which you are compelled to do by law and force to pay for whether you approve or not, and a job. I know many people who work certain kinds of jobs just so they can dress how they want, wear their hair how they want, or smoke what they want after work. There is no such freedom of choice regarding education.
You obviously don't understand anything about freedom. If you don't like the conditions of employment at Coke, quit and work somewhere else. What's this kid gonna do, quit school?

And don't even start on me about me not understanding freedom.
If public school is that bad, get a job and pay tuition at a private school thats fits the students need, or quit school...happens all the time.
My intended meaning of my post was that there are far more good paying jobs that require dress/conduct codes, than good paying jobs where you can wear T shirts, have long hair, and smoke all the dope you want.
In High School, it is their job to HELP students acquire the EDUCATIONAL needs to enable them to become productive adults (since i have to be so specific to avoid being "attacked").
It IS the parents responsibility to give the them the CHARACTER, good WORK ETHIC to succeed.
You're right about choices, I chose to quit Coke making 50k a year.
I chose to go to work for a company that requires me to act appropriately to company standards, and to do MY JOB, and in return, I earn a 6 figure income now.
I chose not to stay in public school, and had 2 jobs in high school to pay my tuition for a private school with no financial help from my parents, so before you give me the bullshit that a student CAN'T pay his own way, it's a matter of WON'T.

I'm sure you can understand the confusion when the topic had nothing to do with the former, and everything to do with the latter. Who knew we were switching subjects?

My comment about your understanding of freedom was not an insult, it was an observation. I have a tendency to be fairly blunt, so I'm sure that's why it came across that way.
In an interesting contrast, I recently quit my six figure income job and took one making about $50K. Such is life. There are sometimes things more important than money, although the line is sometimes blurry. Congratulations on your advancement. I remember the first year I broke six figures, I was 24 and on top of the world.
