View Full Version : Plated & Other "Body" People - Take a look

First off. I want interested parties, mainly Plated, to bid this body work.
Secondly, I would appreciate alot of people input on whats below.

First Set of Pics shows where I literally tore my driver door. I pushed it up a trailer and a locking pin had been "put back" and ripped a hole right through my shit. Tell me what you think and if you would want to fix it, PM me a bid or a ball park.

Next set of pics shows where my Harwood popped and bent in the metal on the sides of where the louver cover goes.
What I would like done is just have a sheet welded flush and eliminate the plastic louver cover (and of course the wipers). Tell me what you think about that idea. If nothing else, I want a bid for it to be "fixed"...what ever that means to you body people (I'm clueless if you can't tell)

There are alot of those red and black two tone cars around anymore. I would get a used door and have plated paint it and pull the cowl.

The damage you are seeing has nothing to do with the hood.
It is on the intermediate area where the hood ends and the windshield starts.

That area is referred to as the cowl, And the black plastic cover is known as the cowl panel.

Is it possible to weld a flush sheet over the cowl? Have you ever heard of any one doing that?

Dude, your gonna need a door and a cowl panel. The cowl will take some time to replace as there is a shit load of spot welding to cut through. Time is money, so that will probably be pretty expensive. The door shouldnt be too hateful to paint, but again time consuming to switch over. Id save up your money and have the entire thing sprayed your favorite color.

Im sure our boy Plated will take good care of you. ;)

after a second look, a good body guy could probably fix that cowl. It may never be perfect, but the plastic cover will hide most of it.

"but the plastic cover will hide most of it" Thats what I did. Bo helped me with a porta power and a harwood cowl pannel.

Door swaps aren't hard to do, you could do that yourself (or with a friend). The car I bought had the cowl pushed in and roof dented. With a little bit of time I pushed most of it out, with various jacks. Still needs finished when it gets painted, but if you take your time you can get it pretty close on your own.

replace the door,i think i've fixed over 20 cowl panels over the past 13 yrs hell a couple were my own:o junk the door the metal is probably stretched to hell and back

I agree with the majority. The door is an easy replacement part and would cost less then having it fixed. The cowl panel, well that is a different story. That would cost alot more to replace then to fix. I have had a couple of these and if you know someone that is good with a slidehammer it can make life much easier. I have repaired my cowl panels myself. The only issue is you have to do a very good job or the wipers will not work correctly. Usually the wiper thing is more anoying then anything. As far as the "welding a panel across" don't do it. I have seen a couple of Stangs with that and they look like shit. The only way that you can get away with that is to weld your plate, get rid of the wipers and buy a extended cowl hood that goes back to the windshield. This is my two cent from my experience.
