i am putting new bearings in the bottom of my motor and i am looking to get the clevite 77 H bearings, are they good bearings? i am putting a paxton novi 1000 on it with 10 lbs of boost, should i get a main girdle? i am looking at the melling M68HV its a high volume oil pump since i am going to be running a s/c. this is a stock bottom end/block 302 that has twisted wedge heads, systemax 2 intake and a tf stg 1 cam. i am looking to get 500 rwhp out of it. i would be happy for it to get through this summer, i know its going to break the block. if it dont last i got 2 more short blocks to get through the summer..lol. i plan on getting a better block after this summer though...... thanks for any help.

if you are going to look into a girdle you might as well put bearning rings and basicly freashin up the motor. the girdle will help. but, that kinda power is a ticking time bomb on a stock block, good luck!! I heard good and bad on the high volume oil pump, I was going to use one on my stock block with a turbo but I ended up going with a stock pump and had no issues at all with 13lbs of boost.

Put cheap stock replacement bearings in it if the clearance allows, Forget the girdle its a waste of money, Stock oil pump will do the job with the stock pan. Do it as cheap as possible since you know its going to break the block.

:wstupid: HVOP can cause some problems when running a stock pan.
Im running one but I have a huge t style pan. On the other cars I used standard pumps.

I would run stock replacement bearings and stock oil pump. Spend your money on a good fuel system and the Tune. Keep the RPMs reasonable and keep from getting greedy with boost and too much timing on pump gas.
Stay away from the HV oil pump. I have personally had issues with excessive cam/distributor gear wear using one.

Should I put a set of ARP main bolts in it instead of using the stock ones again? I want it to last the summer. Are stock bearings better than the clevite bearings? The clevites are only going to run me about $65 for the mains and rods. Is the melling M68 a good standard oil pump? What oil pumps have you guys had good luck with?

Listen, go to lowes...get ya some grade 8 main and rod bolts, on your way home stop by autozone..go in..tell them you need an oil pump for a red 88 mustang 5.0 5sp with some trickflow aluminum heads and a trick flow stg1 cam that has a big nasty novi 1000 with 10lbs of boost that's lowered on some 17in chrome bullets and a chrome shift knob and get the cheapest one they have in stock. LMAO!!! Do just as I say...and you will find great success!!!!!!!!!!!
PS. Just dont use lowes airlines for your tranny cooler...they dont hold up..I PROMISE!!
