I'm stripping off factory powder coat and this stuff is F'in tough. I usually use Jasco Premium stripper which is a jell kind of stripper that you brush on, and it got me this far but i'm gonna have a hard time in between the spokes because i'm having to scrape it off with a plastic putty knife and it won't fit between the spokes.

Was it the Jasco in the Brown/Tan Container?

The strongest, consumer availlible stuff is Marine Finish Stripper. It is used to take off baked on finishes....

Now where can you buy it locally.....beats me, sorry!

Have em blasted, polish the lip and paint the middle.

Well, having them blasted is an issue...how do you mask off the lip and keep it from getting pitted? Also now that i see how clean the finish is under the paint i'm thinking about just leaving them that way.

Yeah this Jasco stuff will burn the shit out of your skin if you get it on you. When you're brushing it on sometimes the brush will flip some on you and it starts burning after just a couple seconds and you gotta rinse it off ASAP or it'll burn little holes in ya.

And yes Paul it's the brown/gold looking can. It's really good stuff but this powdercoat is really tough stuff. It's really thick, at least 1/32 thick. I need something so nasty that it'll just eat the stuff off in between the spokes and i can just rinse it off. The Jasco stuff needs to be scraped and it took me all day just to do one wheel.

Yea, I expeiranced the same issues when I used it on my upper mani.

I had to throw on long sleves and even saftey googles (i looked fly haha)

If you can find stripper that is labeled as "Marine" Stripper, that will work. It takes about 30min to fully set up, but it is used to remove any finish that is "cooked" on.

Aircraft Stripper. And if the warning label is not the entire rear of the bottle then you're not buying the right stuff.

A guy on the Merkur forum told me to try Permatex gasket remover...said it eats powdercoat right off. I'll try both and see what happens.

You could try oven cleaner too. That stuff will take anodizing off, dunno about PC.

Good idea about the gasket remover.

That stuff is also very nasty, it will burn the shit out of you if you dont take precautions.

Well so far i think the Permatex is going to do it. It's gonna take a few coatings and some toothbrush work and probably 2 cans per rim but it's better than anything so far.

I tried Smyth paint center for the aircraft stripper but they were closed.

I wish i'd have started with this stuff. I bet it makes for a really good parts cleaner too.

Haha Yep, I've shot my last 2 blocks down with those when I needed to clean up the head gasket surface.

Holy cow...now i'm even more thrilled with this stuff. It seems that the 2 white rims i have are original white rims (too bad they're nasty, the white ones are super rare) and that means only one layer to peal off. This stuff is coming off like latex rubber.
