View Full Version : Anyone ever heard of a diesel mustang?

Just curious. Anyone know what the general measurements of the popular ford diesels are? I have been thinking it would be funny and cool to drop one into a mustang. I know the diesel drag trucks are starting to get big. Several companies have fast trucks. Banks comes to mind. I just though how much attention you would get opening the hood at the hot rod power tour or doing some test and tune then ripping off a decent time in a more public setting like a ffw or something.

I believe I remember hearing several years ago that Anthony Jones made a k-member for a guy out of TX doing a diesel swap. I don't know that I've actually ever seen a diesel stang though.

Could you imagine a street car with 1000ft/lbs of torque:eek:

I work on diesels all day so I would hate to work on one in my car.lol:lol:

I wouldn't want to think of a 1000ish pound motor in the front of these cars.

Maybe the new V6 diesel that should be in the new F150...

Some where in the internet I saw a Grand National that had a built durmax swapped in to it...something like 500+hp/1000+tq:eek:

Yeah. It would be cool. I have a diesel mag there West coast customs dropped a duramax into a Chevelle.

The fab work that would be involved would be rediculous...plus, I really don't think it would fit...Who know though, enough $$$$ and anythings possible! I would drive it though!!

Id like to do a 12 valve Cummins swap into a Fox body.

They are fairly narrow, being an inline 6 cly. You would have to move the firewall back some though Im sure.

I want to do it now that Im thinking about it!

What I was thinking was to keep it an engine that ford uses to at least keep it kinof from the same company. Does ford buy their diesels or am I getting confused and dodge buys from ford?

I'm fairly sure there were production diesels in UK but maybe that's not what you're asking.

Ford 6.0 and 7.3s are made by International. Dodge uses Cummins.

Also the newer Ford 6.4's are made by International.

Ford= Powerstroke (produced by International)

Dodge= Cummins (produced by Cummins)

Chevy/GMC= Duramax (produced by DMAX a joint venture between GM and Isuzu)

NO! Cummins is owned by Cummins... Dodge uses Cummins diesel engines in pickup trucks.

Ford does not own Navistar... Ford uses Navistar/International diesel engines in pickup trucks, but calls them "Powerstroke"

Duramax is an Isuzu product that GM uses in pickup trucks.

As far as size issues go, i think the most practical swap would be something like a 4bt cummins 4 cylinder... its narrow, not insanely long, and has the capability of producing insane power... not to mention, alot less weight.
But on another issue... i do believe that Ford does produce its own diesels for use in its European line, but i' not positve on that.
And i don't believe Ford has made its own diesel for light duty use in the US since the early 90's
