I've got a good 8.8 sitting outside my garage that will one day be in my coupe... And I was looking at it compared to the 8.8 that will be going into my '88 soon and noticed that the rearend that will be going into the '85 coupe does not have the big bulky looking dampner bolted to the front of the pumpkin... is this part nessisary?

Its just a vibration dampner. My 89 has it,my 86 dont. You choose if you want it on there or not.

Less vibration is always good.

Less vibration is always good.

I will agree with that one... I bet that little coupe will be vibrate like mad with a big block down in it, I better take the precaution and get ahold of one of those dampners when I mess with that car...

If you stay with a stock set-up....you might want to consider the dampner.....or at least hang on to it until later. If you change to a different sort of suspension (3-link, torque arm, etc.) pitch it!

Its just added weight, and not the good kind.

The only thing the coupe will get will be upper/lower control arms and thats probably about it.

As for weight... it will have a big block in it... it'll already be heavy, lol!
