I have a eet of gt40p heads with a screwed up plug hole.
Do Helicoils actually work?
What size would I need. And does any autoparts place sell them?
Thanks for any info!

Is the head on or off a motor? If it's off....I'd just take it to a machine shop an have them either fix it or install a helicoil. I think you can buy the kits at most real autoparts stores...but maybe not at autozone/advanced/ect.

Its still on the car.
Can they be done with them on the car?
Just need it running for now. Plan on upgrading heads this summer.

Helicoils work. You should remove the head and do it or take it to a machine shop and let them do it. You have to drill the plug hole bigger then tap the hole and install the helicoil. It makes alot of metal shaving that can get down in you engine and tear up you cylinder walls. I have done them on the car using grease on the bit/ tap to keep it cleaner. Then after the repair take a shop vac with a small hose on it to try to get into the spark plag hole and get the rest of the shavings out. Leave that spark plug out and crank start the engine to try to blow the rest of the shavings out the spark plug hole.

I just took the head off.
Any idea what a machine shop will charge? Or if anyone on here that can do it?
Any good machine shops in the area? Sorry I dont know of any.
Thanks for the answers!
