I have an 88' Notch with long tube headers. When I floor it, the headers are against the steering shaft and it causes the steering to stick. Is there any way to fix it, or will shorties take care of it?

Thanks,

James

Few things you can do.
-You can loosen the steering column under the dash..and move it some left or right.
-you can also loosen the motor mount to K-member bolts and "rock" the motor in the k-member some to help with the header tube clearance.

Your motor mounts could be wore out and you might need a limiter . If you have room around the shaft when the cars off and it rubs when you floor it it is prob motor mounts cheap fix for that is a limiter

The car was a 4 and turned into a 8 with a 93 5.0. Does that do anything?

Like Jason said check your motor and transmission mounts. How long have the header been on the car?

Thanks for all the help. Does it mater what kind of mounts I get? I have been looking on ebay and they have a bunch of them in a set. Which one shoud I get? Solid, Poly, or rubber?
I plan on putting a 347 in it down the road after I get my wife's mustang back on the road from a fire.

Vert mounts actually lower the engine a little bit.

I've got the same problem. I had to take the shaft out and grind off a bunch of the sides of the knuckle and that helped a lot but it still locks if i'm turning and punch the gas. I didn't know the column could be moved to the side so i'll try that. I'm also about to install a torque link to keep the engine from moving and i'm betting that solves the problem completely. The ultimate answer would be to get a Maximum Motorsports solid steering shaft. It eliminates that rag joint so there won't be anything there to rub.
