View Full Version : HELP, Window Tint Removal

My tint is old and turning purple. I started to peel it off, but it is leaving behind the sticky stuff on my window. Is there any easy way to get that stuff off?

Windex and some soapy water with a razor blade on windows without a defroster. For defroster windows, I soak the film with windex/soapy water and cover it with a garbage bag overnight or let it sit in the sun for a couple hours then gently peel the film off.

409 and the bag is my favorite method, 000 grade steel wool and 409 will take the adhesive off if any is left after the film comes off. I guarantee you'll have some adhesive left on the glass after the film comes off.

The adhesive is the bitchy part. I have a dry cleaning solvent that takes it off in no time but it is a proffesional thing. If you stop by my shop one night, I could take care of it.

What you want is a Citrus-Based cleaner. Works like a charm! :coo1:

Good luck Andy. It always seemed like it would be a real bitch to take window tint off, but I had the windows on the Mustang redone after I got married and the guy took off the old tint and applied the new stuff in a few hours. I guess you just have to know the right tricks.

it only took about 2 hours once I got going. Little bit of soupy water, little bit of lemon windex, and a lot of elbow grease.
