O.k. right now I have a F cam that everyone and their brother tells me that it is slowing me down when I run naturally aspirated. When I spray the car it it great. So with that being said Comp Cams claims they have a cam that has the same max lift as the F cam which is .512 on both intake and exhaust but smaller duration and differen't lobe seperation that will run circles around the F cam and will help me out tremendously. So just looking for some opinions on this from you guys. Here are the specs for both cams

XE270HR Intake Exhaust

Gross valve lift .512 .512
Duration at .006 tappet lift 270 276
Duration at .050 218 224
Lobe lift .32 .32
Lobe seperation 114

F cam Intake Exhaust

Gross valve lift .512 .512
Duration at .006 tappet lift 288 288
Duration at .050 226 226
Lobe lift .32 .32
Lobe seperation 112

I'm by no means a cam expert, but less duration and less lobe sep.,I don't think it would be better.

Thats my thought also but the one guy at Comp actually told me not to 2nd guess his expertise at cams and what he says is correct. He then says that his XE270HR with .512 lift will run circles around the Ford Motorsport F cam. I'll tell you what he will be the first to hear about it if it doesn't.

Keep in mind he is a salesman. Also did you tell him you race in a straight line not in a circle.

No I should have though. He kinda piss me off when he said that to me. I can say that I spoke with 3 differen't techs there and they all said the same thing after I gave them my set up on the car.

They claim it has something to do with the valve timing and the ramps are steeper.

The XE270HR: Intake at .006 opens at 25 and closes at 65. The Exhaust opens at 76 and closes at 20

The F cam: Intake at .050 opens at 4BTC and closes at 42ABC. The Exhaust opens at 52BBC and closes at 6BTC

How much is the cam? If it's close to $300, you can buy a custom grind, or a anderson motorsport, which will be more specialized. They may be right, but it's a one size fits all also. Check out

Another good thread. Anderson is secretive, They don't advertise specs, but they can be found.

These people are making my cam, a little more expensive, but build custom, one off, grinds for your combo. They are used by many nmra top racers.

Just kidding, I would look into what ibstrokin is saying, if
those nmra guys are using them, there's a reason... ;)

Go old school, and get a 3/4 cam (pronounced three quarter cam), like my grampa used to tell me about. =)
He always talked about 3/4 cams and full race cams. lol

you ever degreed a f-cam or seen a cam doctor from one? yikes.... I had 2 at one time and they were way different from each other. Lobes are very very gently and the seat to .050'' is lazy. Not saying for cheap with light springs they are okay but better newer designs are out there.
