I am drinking and thinking out loud. What would you guys think of a 1998 cobra(bone stock) with 110k miles on it. is the 4.6 strong with that many miles, anyone have story, good or bad? how 'at risk' would that engine be of imploding?

I have 137K on the engine in my 1999 GT and I'm getting ready to slap a 150 shot on it.

Drive it till the doors fall off, 4.6's are tough as hell.

To be as blunt as possible. Yes, for what it is, it will be strong. 110K miles really isn't a lot of mileage on a "modern" car, especially these engines. I have seen FI cars with over 210 on the clock. I'd say your safe. Check it over of course, though, it's like everything else, it could be abused.

Thanks for the info...anyone else? I need more info, good or bad. If you have an sn95 that has over 100k, tell me about it.

My 96 Cobra has 108K. I run a 100 shot. There are a few little things going bad, water pump and such but nothing serious. I figure I'm going to drive it until it breaks, then do the internals.

I have 110K on my 99. No issues. Just keep the oil level up and you'll be ok.

imploding.. no, but u are more than likly to spin a bearing internally wise than a rod through the block, those teksid are one of the strongest production cobra blocks made. ya run it till it goes, then forge it, thats what i did, ive got forged manley rods and ross pistons.

As long as its been properly maintained I wouldn't be afraid of it. There are some small things that can go wrong and rob some power but they are an easy fix...like dirty IMRC's.

70+ miles on mine, drove it daily for over 3 years. Finally got the focus to keep miles off of it and better mileage.

Its been going strong, only thing I've had issues with is that the wheel bearing needs replaced (has needed it for a while). I usually get a chance to drive it once or twice a month. She starts right up after sitting with no complaints. If gas wasn't so bad right now, I wouldn't have an issues driving it daily until it was paid off. One more year to go!
