That is a high VOLUME oil pump.
We are using a stock pan, and a stock pick up.

Using that oil pump on a supercharged 302 we read 0 psi using 5 quarts. (Oil would not make it up the mechanical tube) How ever, oil was coming out, at about the rate of flow you would get if held an container of oil at 90 degrees. That is the technical description, in case you were wondering.

We then tried using 6 quarts and got a 10psi reading at idle.

1) What should oil psi be at idle?

2) Do you think we need a higher capacity pan?

Thanks

Dont use a high volume pump with a stock pan.It can suck it dry. I always used stock pumps on my motors with no problems.

I think that is our problem.

I assume that you can not change an oil pump with the engine in the car w/ the stock K member?

yes you can, you just need to loosen the motor mounts and raise the motor a little bit. Oh yeah, invest in some patience as well, cuz you'll need them!

It can be done. Its a pain though. Pressure at idle I like to see atleast 20 psi. Good rule of thumb is 10psi for every 1000rpm so at 5000rpm 50 psi nice.Volume is just as important. Grab a Haynes/Chiltons manual . It should give you the specs on pressure.

It shouldnt suck it dry at idle!

Cool thanks guys.

Do you have any recommendation for getting it to work normal with a stock pan?

Or is my best bet putting in a stock pump?

Stock pump is the way to go. Check the pickup .Make sure it isn't bent, clogged etc.
