I’m having a bad day and in a very pissy mood, so if you don’t want to hear it, click out now….

Went to Columbus yesterday for UMTR, rain sucked, weather got better, racing took forever, got home VERY late, 3:30 AM this morning. Turned out to be a great day, had a blast at the track, Craig took runner-up, won a few bucks and a Cincy Speed card. Had an awesome time hanging out and laughing with the gang. Pulled in the drive to find my beautiful 13 year old German Shephard had laid down on my front porch and died sometime while we were gone. FUCK

Went to the advertised FOMF/SBZ Spring Cruise-in today. Beautiful cars, great crowd, good people. But WTF? QS&L is a nice place, good food, etc. But nothing showing FOMF or SBZ involvement. No registration tent, no awards, no sticker sales, no T-shirt sales or order forms available. Nothing promoting either group. There were quite a few non-cruising folks coming and going, lots of bikers, regular patrons. How the hell were they to know what we were all there for? It looked like a bunch of really cool cars roped off in the lot with a huge crowd of people. But who are these people and why were they here? I am proud of my car show plaques, would have loved to have competed for another. Dozens and dozens of awesome cars in attendance, competition would have been tough. I don’t understand the lack of either group to promote themselves. The annual cruise-ins have always been better than this, even if the award portion of the Fall cruise was a little “warped”. If nobody gives a damn, why was this day organized? Sorry, dumb question, it wasn’t organized. It just was. If you needed help putting this together, why not ask?

Sorry to hear about your dog. That can really ruin a good day.
I had some registration forms made up but was told it was gonna be more low key this time. Now I have some ideas for future cruises as my mom ran New Richmond's car show for many years and I have some connections for dash plaques etc. So if the powers to be will let me run with them I'm gonna try and help out as much as I can. I am actually a pretty decent guy once you get to know me. So be patient and look for future post from me. I'm still getting my office the way I want it.
I hope things get better for ya. Your in my thoughts. (NO not that way!)

First, i think you're a little upset over other things and maybe that's making the little "nags" about today seem worse to you.

Secondly, i can't speak for everyone but i don't go to our "cruise ins" to win prizes. I don't expect win anything. I go for the atmosphere and the chance to meet new friends and to see some badass rides. I do appreciate everyone bringing their toys out and all the effort they put into detailing them, but i've never considered this to be a "car show" where there are winners and losers. This is my 4th year as a member of Stangbangerz and all 4 years my Mustang has been a primered rusted heap and yet i get to park in the same lot with all the high dollar high shining beauties, and nobody gives me shit for not having a show quality ride. I like how a guy can pull into the same lot in a Cutlass that was 4 different colors and still be accepted by the same guy who drives a GT500. This year i didn't even bring my Mustang....i drove my Merkur and to my surprise i got a lot of compliments for it. I had a great day.

I don't mean this as an insult but maybe you're losing sight of what the cruise ins are all about. There are lots of formal car shows out there...i just don't think this is one of them (but hey, that's just my opinion and who am i, right?)

I don't think the point of her post was to say their should've been awards or prizes... the point was to say that to the average Joe Shmo who happened to drive by would've had no idea why we were there or who we even were. No banners saying "Stangbangerz.com" or "FOMFRacing.com" anywhere! If the point is to get people together and have a gathering to promote the site, then you have to have the site address somewhere. Otherwise it looks like a bunch of people driving Mustangs happened to be eating wings at the same time today.

I bought a T-shirt and a sticker.

I'm fairly new etc, but I didn't think it was about a business promotion anyway. I thought it was about a bunch of friends getting together to show our cars off, drink some beer, and eat some wings. If we happen to make some new friends along the way, great. Eh, just my 2 cents. I had a good time, no complaints here.

True...i agree some banners or something would've been cool. I don't know how that stuff works though since it's a public place so i can't say why or if we should have them or not. I was just touching on the lack of prizes part really. I'm just thankful that a group of like minded people get together at all really.

Who cares what Joe Shmoe thinks. It was all about us, all of us! Low keyed type of gathering, that doesn't draw attention. I knew who we were and why we were there, thats all that mattered to me. I had a great time and introduced a couple of guys to this great "family", who will be joining the site soon. I don't see a problem, with the way it was run. I guess if your looking for tropheys, you could go to the TSM shows,.

Edit: Sorry about your dog. We know how painful the lose can be, as they are "family" too.

Well put guy!

Sorry about your dog... But wow, I don't know what to say the spring cruise-in was just a cruise-in not a car show!!! It was done so everybody could enjoy the day and not worry about working or judging!!! I arranged the place and the date and then left the rest of it up to Don from QSL. He got the dj and provided the free wing cards and door prizes on his own. 98% of the cars there were flying a FOMF or a SBZ sticker and then there were all the t-shirts being worn that had either of the names on them as well, so I think it was pretty apparent who put the show on... if a Mustang owner that is at a show in Cincinnati does not know who either group is then they must be living under a rock. I am sorry that I let you down as far as it not being a "car show" but I for one had a great day and for once was able to enjoy a cruise-in that we as a whole were representing. I am the one that said that the FOMF banner did not need to be put up, I thought that since the SBZ banner was being displayed it was in good taste not to put up ours...after all it was their cruise-in that they included FOMF to be part of!!!

I agree! true "Car-Shows" are too much like work, we were just hangin out and having a good time

Yeah I noticed the lack of registration and all the other things that come with a "car-show" but honestly I didnt miss it, I thought today was great fun, saw some faces I havent seen in a looong time and had some good food, and besides, If those folks that ran the car show last year did it again, they wouldnt have been able to really enjoy the show, they have to take the time to run it instead. So I think what was done today was a fantastic Idea on both FOMF and SBZ's part, Plus... (i wasnt around then) but werent the old days just about having fun hangin out in a parking lot, informal, and low key (until the burnouts! :D ) I've heard several stories of "the old days" from several members today and how they were pleased with how today measured up to cruise-in's of the past (minus the burnouts of course)

I say keep up the good work!! :bigthumb

Everyone I spoke to from Gem City Stangs seemed impressed with the showing. I thought it was cool to be able to just mingle and meet new Mustang fanatics. Car shows have their place but also bring on other factors such as judging and prizes and peoples thoughts about why so and so won and not them. We talked about Vinny and shared stories about past cruise inns.
Sorry for the loss of your dog, they sure can be tough to lose.

:bigthumb Very well said. Thats what started this site and how I met alot of my friends on here. I had agreat time. Informal, laid back nobody pulling their hair out over every little detail. It actually makes me rethink selling my ride because today was spent with my friend and Stangbanger Family.

We too really enjoyed the casual atmosphere today. It was nice for those of you that usually work so hard, to have had a relaxing day. I'm sure that organizing these events can be very time consuming not to mention exhausting by the end the day. I too think it was an awesome day. Great friends, great cars, what more can you ask for. I would not change a thing. Very well done. The turn out was amazing. Thanks for a GREAT day!!

Spring cruise-in = people are fresh out of winter and anxious to get their fix for cars and such.

Fall cruise-in = people are wore out and possibly frustrated with dealing with their car all summer and are looking forward to a break.

Really sorry to hear about your dog! :( I had a German Shepherd - they are awesome dogs! As for yesterday, I think it was an amazing day. It was nice to be able to just chill, relax, eat some wings, drink some beers and hang out with some cool peeps! I agree wholeheartedly with the name tag idea! We are getting so many new peeps - it's tough to keep track of everybody. Honestly there are so many "car shows" over the summer, it's nice to be able to find a spot where there are a crap ton of Mustangs, no registrations to worry about and where you don't feel like you have to hit up your car with a tooth brush to get it clean. :bigthumb

We plan on doing that for the fall Cruise in.
Also a shirt and sticker booth. Door prizes!

This was a throw back to the Hooters days, but with a hell of a lot more people and cars. That's how it was supposed to be, it wasn't a car show.

Sorry to hear about your pup. :(

Also sorry you didn't approve yesterday.

We did have t-shirts and decals (and we sold plenty out of Tim and my cars sitting right in front) but we didn't have a formal "store front" setup as I was told that QS&L didn't care for it last year....plus I didn't feel like sitting at a table for 5+ hours like I did in the fall (Tim and I spent the entire fall cruise-in sitting at that table and I didn't even get to walk around and checkout the cars once during the day). This was a cruise-in and not a car show. ;)

The cruise on Sunday WAS organized, but we planned on keeping it simple as we originally had back in the ole' Hooter's days. The DJ was a surprise and provided by QS&L and we were told last year that we could not provide our own....nor could we have a PA system which is why we didn't plan on any door prizes or plaques. I didn't really think about putting one of the SBZ banners up, but no one else thought of it either (probably due to the "laid back" plan). Since we weren't planning on having plaques or door prizes, we didn't have the "data sheets" for the cars as we've done in the past (plus it's difficult to manage without a registration table and multiple entrances). We've tried the name tag thing before with mixed results.....again we went with the "laid back" theme.

QS&L was open to the public and there's NO WAY that they're going to turn away their regular patron's to give us full run of the place (although Northside K of C does come damn close. ;) ) but they did rope off more than 2/3's of their parking lot for us.

The fall cruise will be at Northside K of C over on the Westside again and we do plan on being "more organized" and I'll be sure to ask for volunteers to help out.:cool2:

We may try to squeeze some other summer events in if the weather and racing schedules allow......
