Would like opinions from you guys... I bought Robbys old stang and third gear grinded every great once in a while....on the milford trip to QSL for the cruise in,,it grinded everytime(third only)..Now,I know third gear syncro is out,,no biggy...But its a 3550(dont know if its an early or late) with a 26 spline input shaft and was wondering if "you" guys would fix this to hold some power or just buy a TKO500...I called liberty today and spoke with Paul and he said he could faceplate it and install 4510? gear sets, improved shift forks,31 spine output shaft,ETC(everything pretty much)...for 1700 plus shipping to and from..
Only diff I see is a Facplated used ,like new trans or would you go with a NEW TKO500... Thanks....

Get a hold of Mike (rscoupe) from Dayton Performance. He's rebuilt lots of manual tranny's and he can help you make up your mind. $1700 seems like a lot of money to rebuild a tranny.

I would rebuild it also, but $1700 seems very steep.

They are not 'rebuilding' the tranny. They are faceplating it and putting in a new gear set. This is the same type setup we use in FS, PS etc. and that pricing is right in line with what they are doing to it. It would be one bad mother. But you won't have any syncros. You can drive it on the street but it's not the easiest.

Thanks everyone..Yes Ken..Paul said it would be kinda like a TKO500 but faceplated..which would 2300 to 2400 normally for a TKO500..so,,some savings....And he also said it would be a touch notchy on the street but drivable, and shift like a hot knife through butter... :D at the track.. ....Guess I've already spent next year tax return.... ...

If you just want to fix your syncros and keep it "stock"....try pm'ing Timido (Tim Duncan). I'm not sure if he's still doing it..but he went threw my 3550 a few times for me several years ago. I ran a stock 3550 behind my 347 with a spec stage 3 clutch. It worked fine for hundreds of high 10 sec n/a passes...and many 10.4 passes on a 125 shot.

Thnaks Jeff...I may do that to finish the year out.At least get some runs with it and this winter do the trans up...Paul at liberty is at least 6 to 7 weeks behind..so If I do send it to him...might be quit awhile before I get it back, paid for ,lol, and back in the car... Thanks again..

My old G-force T-5 was face-tooth it was killer at the track. It was not that difficult to drive on the street. At the track it was of so nice.
