Ok for the 68 cougar I have a efi dist. and I can buy a duraspark at the parts store But a Msd new from jegs is not in the budget now SO can I wire a 6al to a efi dist with it, the box and coil as the whole system? Or can I buy a duraspark one and swap the gear from the efi one (are the shaft sizes the same? OR are there any other suggestions that can be don in order to fire the car up this weekend?

You can buy a Duraspark with the right gear from Autozone!!! They usually keep them in stock. I think I paid $40-50 for mine.

you want the steel or brass gear, not the cast one.. The steel or brass are for roller motors, Just get the one for an 85 mustang GT 5spd, steel gear..
Here you go!!!
