i try to put a cam in my motor,and it will go all the way in till it get to the last journal,the itll only go half way in to the last journal,and suggestions?

See if the gear on the end of the cam is too big to go thru the cam bearing, if it is then you have a cleveland cam instead of a windsor cam. I bought a new cam that was boxed wrong and I had that problem. If that's not the problem, then put the bolt for the cam gear in it and put a boxed end wrench over it and use the wrench for leverage to lift the back of the cam up to get it in the rest of the way.

its a stock cam that im trying to put bac in it,and itll go all the way inexcept about half the jornal left then wen you do get to that point,its very hard to turn?

There must be something wrong with the last cam bearing

Try putting the cam gear back on and using it to handle the cam easier.

i can get the cam all the way in and get it started on the last journal but a 1/4 inch left and it binds up and the cam wont turn?and it wont fully seat.ive put in alot of cams and never seen one do this?its like the journal is out of round.

its a explorer motor and a 88 stock cam should slide right in

Maybe your engine is trying to tell you that it doesn't want a stock cam, seriously though, you may need to just replace the bearings.

Is this a fresh machined block? Is the cam retainer (freeze plug) in the back of the motor flush with the block?

no it has around 60k on it,and the freeze plug in the back

well i tore it apart and the cam bearing are pretty marred up:(
might as well put all new bearing in it
