I was looking today at removing the smog pump and getting a shorter belt, but the location of the tensioner seems to make it so that the smog pump has to be there. I have seen guys remove the smog pump though. Are they just converting to fox accessory brackets??

Does the car have underdrives on it? Also are you going to be using A/C? If it has underdrives and your not using A/C here is the part number for the short belt. I just did this on mine not too long ago. You need to remove the upper tensioner as well.

It doesn't have A/C and I believe it has the stock pulleys on the car. Thanks for the part number!

I couldnt remember if it did or not. Mine has them so that number is going to be off. Here is a link to a diagram with the correct length for you.

you can also run a smog elim kit which is basically a small bracket and pulley. I did that for a few years til the pulley bearing went out, then just put a shorter belt on it.

I like the idea of runnin the shorter belt and getting rid of that stupid thing altogether and not having another pulley for the serpentine system to drive.
Thanks for the info guys, that allfordmustangs link was exactly what I was looking for.
Am I going to get a check engine light? Am I going to have to plug/remove any lines?

You dont HAVE to remove any lines or anything but if your going to remove the smog pump youll have to plug the line going to the H-Pipe and the line to the back of the head. And no, you wont get any cel's from doing it.

yeah go to advance and get some heater core block of plugs and put on on the h pipe and one on the steel lines comong out of back of head you may want to cut the bend out of the line to clean up the looks of it all you wil have like ten dollars in all this.
