Recently a friend and I were chatting about a 1 Farad capacitor that IBSTOKIN' installed in front of my car audio amp.

My question is, what is the maximum discharge current of a 1Farad capacitor at 12V? By maximum current, I mean a short circuit, not into a different load or amp.

I know there are a few things that will have to be generallized because I don't have all of the specs of the capacitor.

I think it would go something like this:
If the maximum discharge current to .001 second, the max. current would be 12,000 amps. That's a lot of current, but a very short amount of time.

What do you think?

Your balls are NOT big enough to test.

But if you decied too, make sure to video tape it :)

A 1 Farad capacitor can store and release 72 Joules (watt*second) of energy at 12 Volts.
