The old coupe is starting to get it's new stuff.Ive got a new front bumper and pass' fender.New carpet, headlights, seats, belts, interior quater panels, rear bumber.Im tired of lookin at this thing everyday and watch it age faster than the milk in the fridge. This is what it looks like now.
Today im going to be fixing the weak left front bolt to the seat frame.I think all my mustangs have had this issue.Maybe its cuz im a little husky.Ill be drilling a hole in a piece of small stock and welding it around the stud for the seat.Shouldnt be to bad.Its kinda think metal, but its all i could find in the living room at the time.

I will also be adding one more to the stable.Guy offered me another coupe today,85 4 eye car that i could not pass up on.Hopefully this friday it will be sitting at my house. This car has fresh exhaust, interior, very fresh paint, and some other things.I might try to get to the cruise in with it,but we will have to see.

Yea.Im sellin the 65 that i have if i can get a good price on it.I dont think i have what it takes to get it really going. Its going to need a good resto.I just dont have the time or place to really do it.And for the really really low price im getting this 4 eye coupe for,i couldnt pass it up.But all it needs is some brake work and its ready to roll. Its allmost comepletly done, except the brakes.Thats it.

facemelter71
09-23-2008, 09:29 AM
Yea.I pulled it out of the woods from some farm out past Aberdeen off 52.It had been sittin there for some about 5 years. The body is pretty solid and strait, the floor needs replaced and it has its typical rust spots. But other than that, the doors shut just like an old ford should.

I also finished welding the crack up in the floor, and cut a small piece of metal and stuck it in the hole you see on the side of the stud and welded it all back up solid.Ill have an after pic here in a minute.Gotta pull the car in.

Heck I can't even tell it was ever broke! :bigthumb

Thats what was wrong with my '89... the front left seat stud broke off, and the passenger rear floorboard was cracked.... flimsly little foxes...

I can't believe you found a '65 all the way down in Aberdeen and I didnt find it first! I am a hop, skip and a jump from there!

The car was off Fishing Gut rd in front of a huge farm about half a mile from Fishing gut.It was back in the woods,i had to cut trees down to get it out.It was also parked next to an old Firebird convertible 4 speed car.Its still there.

Before carpet.Ive been scrubbin with a plastic brush and small tooth brush for about 2 hours cleaning the floor.Seam sealing small holes and small gaps and cleaning rust where puddled water liked to sit.I fixed the pass' door pins yesterday,no more leaking water.

Rust issue i found last week while lookin the car over.Left front strut tower.
http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2008-1/1296889/tower1.jpg
Heres my solution.Dont worry about the little triangle hole to the right.I patched it up yesterday.Sawzall got a little crazy.LOL
http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2008-1/1296889/strut.jpg
After cutting with my buddy's new Battery sawzall.
http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2008-1/1296889/strut1.jpg
New panel in and welded.See theres that damn triangle hole.Stupid Sawzall. They made me leave work, they were shutting the doors so i had to do the rest at home.

http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2008-1/1296889/strut3.jpg

Next week im sealing the holes in the front subframe to keep it from happening again. And rust proofing the rest of the car.

facemelter71
10-13-2008, 11:00 AM
Yea where the two bolts come up through from the K-member,there was nothing left to hold them up.Just some rust that kept them from moving. When i put the new piece in I overlapped the seam so i could weld a seam on the inside of the engine bay and one on the outside. Its pretty sturdy.I have the old piece here at work and will snap a pic of it in a minute.

Uhhhh, yea a little bit.But that is the only rust on the front of the car.Its weird how it picked that one spot. And i like your square stock you got welded in there.I didnt have the time.I was doin it at work.If i would have thought of that,I sure as hell would have done it.Nice job Decker.Looks awesome.

Came home from the junkyard today with a 31 spline trac-lok diff.38 bucks and it was mine.I dont think it matters if it has the abs ring on the ring gear does it?

Probly in about 2 weeks it'll head up to CS to get new 31 spline axles and have this new diff put in.

Mustard
10-26-2008, 09:22 PM
have you fitted the bumper cover yet? I am in need of one and wanted to know how well it fit. IS it from latemodel resto also?

bbfstanger
10-26-2008, 10:10 PM
that abs tone ring is pressed on so its easily tapped off with a small persuader.

facemelter71
10-27-2008, 10:06 AM
The tone ring Looked like it was bolted to the ring gear. But i guess i can just un-bolt it.And the bumper came from ABP over on Mosteller.I couldnt beat the price of it.Its not a bad bumper but could be better. But i could have done a better job riviting it to the headlight panel.Ill get the price in a little bit.

Stangman
10-27-2008, 10:10 AM
Unbolt the ring gear, and use a punch or something to focus your blows on the ABS ring. It'll pop right off. I did the same thing with my 31 spline unit.

With my battery and nitrous mounted in the trunk and rear seat installed,do I still need to have a metal bulkhead in between me and the trunk?

R825OH
10-28-2008, 01:07 PM
I would do it Andy .

Stangman
10-28-2008, 01:12 PM
I could be wrong, but I thought as long as the battery is in a strong box, and you have a nitrous blowdown tube, that you didn't need a rear firewall...

When I was at Pinks All-Out with Steve (Steves LX) they were ULTRA strict, and did not require him to have a rear firewall as long as he had a blowdown tube... not too sure on the whole battery thing though...

facemelter71
10-28-2008, 01:15 PM
The battery is open to air.Its not in a box.Guess ill need a box then.Damnit.

Stangman
10-28-2008, 01:17 PM
Are you doing a battery cut-off as well?

facemelter71
10-28-2008, 01:30 PM
Yea.I dont know how yet,but i have a couple of cutoffs from some Porsche's.

Stangman
10-28-2008, 01:49 PM
I would mount it behind the license plate and put the plate on a hinge and do a switch.

Clean and simple.

mustang8998
10-28-2008, 07:24 PM
Yeah, you'll need a "sealed" battery box, if you don't have a rear bulkhead. And it has to be vented outside the car, as well. Search around, because there is only one plastic box, that the NHRA, will allow.

92coupe
10-28-2008, 09:16 PM

You are thinking about the Moroso box, However the people at nmra never hassled me over the Taylor stainless box it's sealed and vented. You will definetly need a blowdown tube onyour n20.

mustang8998
10-28-2008, 09:39 PM
A Taylor plastic box?

I don't know, but I thought the Moroso, was the only NHRA legal one.

92coupe
10-28-2008, 09:43 PM
The Taylor box is stainless steel and it's sealed and vented. NMRA never gave me any trouble over it.

Yeah, I kind of missed the stainless part.

As far as plastic boxes go, the Moroso, is the only one (as far as I know).

Andy, you can vent it anywhere you like, as long as it's outside the cabin. :bigthumb

facemelter71
10-30-2008, 04:28 PM
I shall be venting it all then.Im pullin the car in the shop in about 5 minutes for a tranny filter and cooler install.Im going to mount the cooler probly on the radiator support if i have some of the things i need here.Ill keep you posted.

Well its been a while since ive updated any one on the red turd.
About 2 months ago it developed a problem with the pcv valve system and was suckin mud through the hose to the intake and it had a weird smoke problem under light pedal pressure, and an overheating issue.I pulled the heads off and noticed number 2 hole had the head gasket blown.I swapped head gaskets and stuck it back together.Still the same problem. So now it sits at my house, not moving.
Ive kicked around the idea of just stickin another set of heads on it and gettin me through a couple months before I swapped to the stroker I have for it.But I decided to just get the other motor done and get it dropped in.I was going to stick copious amounts of nitrous to it,but have since adopted a nice little Master Power T-70 from a pretty cool guy on the boards. So Im selling the spray,or I might just put it on the wifes car.
Hopefully by next month I will have it stuck in the car and running.Just depends on if I do the engine swap in my yard like I did with my truck. We shall see.more to come later.

Yeah that was an unsuccesful campaign by the North American Dairy council. As it turns out the smell of rotten Milk in the morning is not something that compells the masses to consume Dairy products. They were much more successful with the "Got Milk?" slogan. :D

I believe this weekend it will fire up.

I got my SCT BA2600 MAF,SCT chip,and 60# injectors.

Pretty much everything is in the car minus the radiator and a few things which I should be able to finish in a couple of hours.
The chip has been some what burnt to get it from my dads to my place, then to CS for the final tune.Should be an interesting drive.

How do you think I should take the 30 minute drive from my dads. All in one shot,or should I let the engine take a few breathers in between?

Even if I dont get it done im probly towing it home. That way its at my house and I can just mess with it there.Instead of driving 30 minutes to work on it.

Well the car made it to my house.

On a trailer. My dad towed it for me so I can work on it at home.

Got the suspension lowered, the new hood on and I believe it might even fire up tonight.I just need an oil pump primer since the one i got grew legs and ran off.
