The clutch pedal and quandrant like to chatter very loudly. I've got the firewall adjuster, will adjusting help? Relative to the clutch pedal position, when should the clutch begin engagement? Should there be shims between the cotter pins and quadrant?

There are no shims supplied with the firewall adjuster/quadrant kits, but you can use washers to put on both sides of the quadrant to align it with the cable centerline. The chatter is typical when a clutch fork is worn or the throw out bearing is making noise/worn. You can tighten the adjustment to rid yourself of the chatter, but then that escalates the wear of both pieces. Adjustment is typically user specific, but I would say it needs to engage no earlier than 2" from the floor. This is to give you enough air gap with the clutch fully depressed during a shift.

Chatter while engaging the clutch? No adjustment will help that. That is a function of the clutch and flywheel. If you are getting popping noises and rough engagement, then maybe the shift linkage parts will matter.
