my beater's tranny is in limp mode.. i can figure out what the dam codes are telling me though..

96 chrysler town & Country , 3.8, auto , air.. stupid 4 speed

trans code on snap mt2500 scanner is 36 , and 53

car is only running in like 1-2 gear... anyone ever had one do this before ?
or know what the problem may be

i was driving slowly in traffic, went to take back off after sitting still for 10 minutes and it started shifting all stupid.

checked the tranny fluid its still red (ATF+3 , and full )

36 =is fault immediatley after a shift.....which is accociated with code=
53=Speed Error gear ratio in 3rd.== possible cause internal transmission problem.

There is a TSB for these codes that may or may not fix your problem....
INPUT SPEED SENSOR...replace this,,fairly cheap to replace and have replaced several...

part no. 4412878 from the dealer..in order to properly diagnos,,a scanner is a must...need to see in input rpm is dropping out...could also be major trans issues..."clutch slippage"

speedo works fine.... kinda odd to have major damage creepin along on interstate

Kinda why I'd replace the input speed sensor first.. :D .....

two shaft speed sensors, known to fail, about $19 each, easy to get to.

yes seveal times...majority of the time it was the input or outout sensor...

sure couldnt hurt to change both as both are common problems

BOTH sensors, do it!

$40 for two sensors or a $2700 for a rebuild.

update.... change both speed sensors on tranny ... still shifting like crap , once it gets into 3rd gear it goes to limp mode.

on the snap on mt2500 scanner i have it has a quick learn feature , i tried that after clearing codes and disconnecting battery.still no 3rd gear

also did the quicktests through scanner and it tested all tranny solenoids, all tested fine
