How much do lighter wheels actually help out at the track? I have 17Inch bullets on my 88gt and i was thinking about putting pro stars on it.

Every little bit helps but I use to run 17" bullets on my front end and switched to a draglite. There really wasn't that big of a difference.
100LBS = 1 tenth

Going from Weld Draglites to my 16s was right around a 70lb difference. Like he said, every little bit helps. If it'll at least lower your 60 then it's worth trying.

I heard for every 10 lb's of unsprung weight is a tenth off. I don't know what unsprung weigt is though. I know for every 100Lb's it is a tenth off.

Not sure what unsprung weight is but if you have the pro stars I would slap them on and in all honesty on the nitrous question you may pick up more then what I said but I dont think it will be a whole lot more just from my past experience with the zex kit. But you wont know unless you try.

I would be happy with mid 11's on a 100 shot. I'm not going to spray it until 2nd gear because i still have the stock t5 in it. Lol

Unsprung, is anything that is below the spring perches, IE; wheels, brakes, axles.

Thats what i figured but i wasn't positive. Does anybody know if that is true for unsprung weight?

The big killer is rotating mass, which acts like it's heavier than it is sitting still. If you have big fat 17s all the way around, they'll create more rotating mass than Welds with skinnies will. Also a tire like ET Streets weighs considerably less than drag radials or regular radials, assuming you run them without tubes.

If you had typical OEM style 17s with wide tires all around (not a light weight 17 like you'd use in road racing) and you switched to Welds with front runner tires and slicks out back, i could see close to 100lbs dropping off the weight of the car. There's an article about this in an old 'mag that said drag radials on welds were 20 something pounds heavier than slicks on ten holes...so i could see 25lbs off each back wheel and even more off the front.

I think my bullets are 17 by 9 because 255's fit perfect on them. I run a 15inch wheel off of a 6cyl with hoosier quick time pro's at the track.

when I had the car and ran the 17's at the track it was slower, never hooked.. I worked at a wheel and tire company and those were the heaviest wheels I ever put on a mustang. try the prostars.

I thought they were cuz 275's fit good on them to. They are some heavy ass wheels. Lol But they look good on it.

Now you are getting into aspect ratios, depending on tire size. A smaller wheel size can gain 60ft times, over the larger wheel.
