Could be the mass air, or fuel pressure regulator, see if anyone has a sensor you can swap out and see if it runs different or have auto zone or ? clear the codes and drive it a couple times and see if they come back.

it misses like crazy, exhaust is cut so there is no muffler. can anyone test mass air flows?

no muffler really shouldnt affect it. Try cleaning the mass air sensor with some brake clean or they even make mass air cleaner. Running a cold air intake could get oil on the sensor from the filter. If you are or have had one. Check the fuel pressure if you can Thats a good start. You really need a scanner to see what the maf is reading, thats really the only way, no parts store can test them.

Clean the MAF with rubbing alcohol and a q tip. Be very careful cause they are easy to mess up. Also clean the IAT sensor while your at it. If you have a Xcal2 or know anybody that does you can read MAF voltage and see where its at. Have you done anything else to the car before the light came on?

my mass air flow had oil residew on it and cleaned it, but nothing changed. could bad spark plugs or coil cause this? or would it read missfire. this is the first 4.6 I ever worked on.

its like it is running on 6 cyl

well you could test each spark plug to make sure each one is firing off. you can do that by pulling all the fuel injector plugs so your not shooting fuel. Then take each plug out one by one, put it in the plug wire and hold the end on the head and have someone turn the motor for a 3 seconds. You will want to see spark. What year is the car?

then he has a coil on plug design. Little harder to do the plug test. does he still have cats on the car?

yes cats are still there, I live on steward harbough rd. What is a snap on solus

Holy crap that is an exspensive scanner. pm me where you live. car is driveable just hard to lol

did you clear the codes yet and try driving? may have a plug fouled out which would cause the fuel to get into the exhaust and be picked up by the front 02s. A vacuum leak can also create a rich condition and allow poor performance. Check ALL vacuum hoses for cracks. If I had the time I would help but I am swamped with projects for awhile.

I checked all the hoses and they look ok. I pulled out a plug and aghh looks like crap. I cleared the codes and they didnt come back on yet but still drives like crap.

when I started it in the morning the car wouldnt even idle or respond to the gas petal just shut off, after it warmed up it drove and idle better

o yeah when it wouldnt idle it kicked the mass air code. but I cant remember if I had it unplugged or not.

ok got cleaner and spark plugs, and it runs 100 times better still a slight miss in it, im thinking it could be a coil pack, one of the spark plugs had built up white corrosion on it

any one have a coil pack laying around... let me know.

Ok sounds like you have a COP or Coil Pack that is not firing correctly. The O2 is telling you what side it is coming from. Do you have COP's or Coil Pack?

1992MustangDW

what is cop's? all coils are firing, but I dont know about correcly

C=coil O=on P=plug ...... sorry :)

It depends on if the COP's are putting out the right voltage, and if they are getting the right voltage.

Also in my experience, you have to run a muffler of some sort. These cars require back pressure to run correctly and with out it the car can sputter. One other question is, do you have the filter on the intake?

These cars are different from the 5.0's in so many more ways than you could believe. One little thing will make the car run like crap.

no mufflers at all, I think the previous owner just cut them. I will see if i can get some mufflers, or if anyone has some stock ones they took off. would a clogged converter cause it to studder

a clogged converter is a big problem. Do you know for sure that it is clogged?

I will put this a simple as possible. Save up and buy an Off Road H or X pipe and some flowmasters.

H-pipe around $150
Flowmasters $59 ea.

Both can get from flowmaster.

Or just get ahold of this guy and offer him $100 for his stock exhaust. :)

Just weigh out what you want to do. you will have around $300 or less in aftermarket exhaust and the car will like it alot.

o and there is a filter, 90 % of the miss is gone

ok thanks alot think I will try that.

no mufflers are alright as long as you have the cats. the cats can create enough back pressure. clogged cats will cause a problem. If you delete the cats the rear 02s have to be turned off or bypassed with MIL eliminators.

im trying to get another pipe from someone, man these cats get HOTTT. also I think it has factory cops so i am going to take them out and make sure the rubber aint split and arcing on the head.
