393 Stroker ???

ok So for my 68 cougar I picked up a 351 in running order but that is about as much as I know about it..... SO I am thinking of doing a quick rebuild. Now keeping in mind this is a street car and more of a cruiser than anything I have been looking into a 393 stroker setup. It uses the stock rod so I can reuse the ones in the motor now and uses a 302 piston. I chould use a OE 87-82 forged piston but that limits the cam in lift BUT I also am not looking to buy a 4-700 dollar set of forged ones ether so a KB Hyperutectic set is about the most it whould get. Now as I have been told in a flat top that makes it about a 10 to 10.5 to 1 motor. My goals are 400-500 hp and that ballpark in torque. So I guess I need some input and info to make sure I am on the rite path.

Oh also I will not be spraying the car nor will it see FI just want a healthy/trouble free small block I can have fun with.

If you are going to buy the 3.85 crank and use Stock 302 piston thats cool. If you are using a set of decent pistons you might want to just look into a kit with a set of new H beam or I beams. Either a 393 408 418 427 My 408 was built as a pump gas motor. A set of Vic jrs, afr 205s Trick Flow R heads anything in the 205-225 Intake heads would work great out of the box. Vic Jr intake port matched to the heads , decent cam ,750-850cfm carb, and decent headers 1 3/4 if you can. In that 400 cid range with decent heads and the right cam you shouldnt have much trouble making 550 at the motor.

I have put together a bunch of 393's. They work really well and are quite cheap to do. If you are looking at buying a crank and a set of pistons, then the Probe kit I offer would be a good route, probably same price as the crank, pistons and rings/bearings are going to cost if bought separately. I sell them for less than 900 for the street fighter kit. Get with me for an exact price, and I can get it shipped already balanced so all you have to do is assemble.
