I was wondering how good of a blower intake these make. I just bought one brand new from someone very cheap. I couldn't pass it up so I figured I would make a buck on it. Now I am thinking of running it on my 86'. I am running an A-trim at 9psi a GT-40 tubular intake w/ cleaned up and port matched lower, and Ported twisted wedge heads. It made 475/483 at the tire. If I make the swap I am guessing I will gain horse and lose torque? Or will I gain both? Anyone have any input. I love my torque. It is very fun on the street, plus it is a pretty intake:) but if the trick flow will make the car perform all around better I will do it.

is it the box R upper or the normal one?

Like Sharad said, the labeled 2 intakes with the R, one has long runners, the other is the box. Which one are you talking about? When I talked to the guys from trickflow at a race a few yrs ago, one of the guys said they he didn't "even know why they made the long runner version anymore, the Box version makes more hp and torque than the other version".

Take that for what its worth. I've noticed that sometimes the guys in the booths know less about their products than I do.

It is the runner style. According to summit it is called a R-series intake and the other is called the Box R-series.:dunno:

Send Gregg@tfs a pm and see what he thinks.

I think you would probably pickup both hp & tq by switching to the R intake...definatly port match the lower to the head intake ports if you do swap to it. I use to run a regular tfs-r on my 347. It worked well for me..motor put down 420rwhp/400rwtq N/A..and ran a best of 10.84 at 124. I have since swapped to a box R upper to help gain more upper rpm power. I think it would work well for you. That A trim is probably about at it's limits already with the power you are already making...step up to a S-trim.

That's funny cause I work that trailer quite a bit.

I agree with Jeff on this one.:bigthumb

LOL, was it you who told me that?:D

Also, I didn't just mean the tfs booth, but everyone in general.

Could have been. The box R intake has a nice runner to it retaining a lot of the botton end torque.

Sometimes you just have to try and see for yourself. Also, Think about sending your blower back to vortech for a SI upgrade, they will support 770 fwhp.

Blower upgrade is out of the budget currently. The little A trim will have to hang in there. Besides they charge way to much for stuff anyways in my opinion. Just a rebuild I priced was stupid. I did it myself for almost nothing. There customer service guys have some of the cockiest dick head attitudes I have heard.
Anyways I found this on muscle mustang and fast fords site. It is an intake shootout between the vic 5.0, holley systemax II and TFS R. They base lined their 347 w/ AFR 185's with a GT-40 intake. They tested to 6600 rpm. According to the results and dyno graphs the GT-40 intake pretty much handed them all their asses till 5600 rpm. I shift at 6000. I am wondering how the results would differ on my 306 with a blower? Being a street car I don't know after that article what to do.:tard:http://www.musclemustangfastfords.com/tech/173_0101_super/index.html

Blower cars are different. You wont know till you try it. A lot of the Magazine articales are biased to their customers the advertisers. If I were doing it I would dyno before and after and see what works best for you.

Well I decided to sell the R. Not just because of the article but because of a few things. 1. I am already pushing the stock block at around 550 flywheel. 2. The motor runs great, is fun, looks good (to me) and has no leaks or problems. 3. I don't feel like changing it LOL!. 4. I am lacking in the suspension and tire catagory and can't put any of what I have to the ground anyway. So I am going to put the money into my hooking up. I am glad to be a part of a site where I can get so many opinions and info. Thanks to everyone.

even though ur getting rid of it anyways,i wanted to say this.i would also keep what u already have ,the gt 40 is better for the street, because it keeps the power in the range that u would accually use it and with the ''r'' intake it would move the power out of that usable range for a street car,and plus u dont need to overspin the blower just to get the power out of the engine that u already have

:bigthumb Thanks for the .02.
