Well after a small hiatus from the site, I'm back with a new project. I've been doing some research for the past year and i finally got the trucks together: I am putting a 91 Cummins into my 93 F350. After doing some research, it doesn't look like it's going to be that bad, maybe a month or so working on it constantly, but while it's down I'm thinking i might be doing the body work also. Coming to think about it, I'm not going to put a time on it cause I'll never meet it! I'm going to TRY to fab everything up myself, but due to a time limit, i donno. My plan is to fab the engine mounts up and machine an adapter to fit onto the ford trans. for right now and make the wiring work together, and if adding new wires, make a new wiring schematic/harness. Later on I might switch it to a 5spd, but I'm not going to lie, it's my toy truck and yeah manuals are fun, but for now i like the idea of having an automatic in my life haha.
That was a quick thing about what I'm doing, I'll plan on takin alot of pictures and updating this as I go. I'm shooting to start ripping stuff apart in about 3 weeks.
Here is the picture of the truck its going into....dont have pics of the other truck yet...just a 91 single cab 2wd...

1993 F350.....old military truck, 351 (new transplant for the wrangler) so that is actually a factory color (jams and all!) was stationed in alaska most of it's life, but there is no rust on the body, and very little under it. cab has 2 small dents but the bed....well yeah getting a new one. In the first weeks of owning it, now has 8" of lift with 37" tires so it sits up there a little. I start my co-op next week again, so im going to use the CAD and CNC plasma cutter and build a front ranch hand bumper and rear bumper.

If anyone knows anyone in cincinnati that has done it that i might be able to get incontact with...that would just be tits. I can read about it all day but until you do it, I'm sure there is little things i bet people wish they did. I've been reading on destroked a little and a few other websites, but to actually see it would be sweeeeeeet.
keep ya'll posted!

Dude awesome project! There are plenty of sites out there of people that have destroked their 7.3's and put 12 valves in them. Can't wait to see how it turns out :bigthumb

Do you think it might have been easier to do the motor swap before the 8 inches of lift and 37's. On second thought, now you have an excuse to rent a crane to put in the new motor.

Well while i'm in the process of looking for a NV4500 bellhousing back to transfer case so figure i do some small things that might make it look a little better and safer. I bought cab lights for it, they are nice international LED ones, and also in the process of building a bumper for it. I built it in my 3d model program (solidworks) so i could throw the drawings to G and M code and cut it out of the NC plasma table and gave it material properties and it weighs in at 305lb haha. I'll post a pic of it all when it is all put on.
(the solid part behind the bumper is a makeshift front end i used for alignment)

It will be cool when it's done. Why go with the cummins and not the Powerstroke?

Because the in line 6 of the Cummins is FTMFW on torque

Paul Watson has done this. You will likely want to speak with him. he knows the ins and outs of those cummins motors like no one else.

basically because to me, its a bullet proof design. It utilizes the inline design, which increases the torque numbers, direct injection, larger connecting rods, and just an overall simple motor with lots of potential AND doesnt do half bad on gas! plus reliable as hell.

i thought that was the same thing joe?:dummy: anyways i was going to run just NOS as fuel...heard its great on MPG's and super great on keeping it reliable....then i was planning on putting a wings west body kit on it with a transformer flying on the side with angel eyes....eventually i want to ship it to japan and drift in parking garages is the plan, but I guess we'll see....

well i started workin on the bumper...hopefully the rest of the steel pipe will be in by the weekend. Snapped a couple pics of it though.

Took my DXF files to my buddies place and cutted the main pieces out of 1/4" CD steel and the mounts to the frame out of 1/2" CD steel

Here is the NC plasma table cutting stuff out.

And here is what i have so far.....the center pieces that go up are about 3' tall and weighs a little under 200lbs...which is alot better than the 300 i thought it would weigh by this point!

Also as an update on the swap, i bought a transmission, decided to go with the 5spd that was behind those years of trucks to make it easier. Now all i need is the transfer case. due to time, i decided to buy the motor mounts from destroked and should be in hopefully next week. I hope to be running by the summer, but you know what happens when you set a time limit.....so in that case i hope to have it going before i graduate school haha.

welp here is 90% of it...i still would like to paint it with some "Blacktop" but that will have to wait. added D rings and smaller rods since the original design but you'll have that. Also still need to put the fog lights but that i will do after swap. If weather is going to work out hopefully pull engine this coming week but im having a hard time with some parts so we'll see how fast i get it together.

I might have to have you set up a bumper for a '94 S10 Blazer.

well its been a spell but here is updated pictures. senior year is hell and preparing for grad school so not much time to work on it. anyways here are a couple pictures of dropping it in.
I ended up getting this 10K pound winch for the front and working on a hydraulic system for it now. so im going to have to mod the bumper for it to fit

What trans did you use?

What trans did you use?

Im actually using the dodge trans and transfer case. Im using the Getrag (would have used an NV4500 but found a real good deal on this one, plus it would bolt right up) out of an 89-93 truck and since it is a drive side drop, i had to use a 96 dodge transfer case. I'm going to have to make a custom trans mount, but from the way it looks, I can easily mod my existing one by filling the old slots and milling in next ones. The other reason I decided to use the getrag is now the whole drive line is dodge, so when i need a clutch or flywheel or anything like that, its a factory part and i can go right down to KOI instead of ordering from fordcummins or destroked (except motor mounts, which i hope i dont break those!!!).
I'm also planning on modifying the core support so i can use the factory dodge radiator.
Besides a few mounting points, Im trying to use as much factory stuff as I can to do the swap.

Cool stuff. So are you just going to have to lengthen/shorten driveshafts and make the mounts fit? I think a 12v would be great in my Excursion but I dont know If I would want to spend the big bucks on the adaptor plate and trans programer for the 4r100. I think the best way to do this would be find a wrecked 12v

Yep, thats about it besides wiring which there is hardly any. In my case i have a few other things to do cause im changing it to a manual instead of an auto, but for that yeah. I'm also buying all new aftermarket gauges, but to run the whole engine there is only one wire and that is the fuel shut off which is why i love this engine.
Yeah you would need a stand alone controller for that trans, now im not to sure what else you need cause i didnt look at all at autos, but i would have to agree with you that if ya get a cummins with an auto, that would work cause you would have everything including the computer for the trans...... but i dont know how to make it stand alone computer or anything. After doing some research though, I dont think i would ever do a swap with a 24v and certainly not a commonrail....those have a ton of wiring and are a head ache i hear even though when they are done they can put down some serious numbers.
Its an expensive swap with just an old 12v but my old cummins truck had 500K miles and still ran strong and my DD has 173K on it and runs like a champ! i get about 22 mpg mixed but mostly highway. yes parts can be pricey but damn is it easy to work on and reliable as all hell.

Cummins are the way to go in my book! I almost stiffened up my 97 1/2 ton and slapped one in last summer lol. I'm intrested in that bumper you made, could you maybe get another one modeled and cut out for a dodge? I want to build a road armor style bumper for mine and that would make it soooo much easier!

pulling this thread back from the dead!
Truck now runs and drives with the cummins in it. Working on few small things but other than that its running great!

Need to breath a little better so i made a 5" exhaust system for it. I built it so that the flat bed i'm building is off set and the stacks sit close to flush with the side of the truck
to give more of a factory look.
